Though appropriate for Pentecost there is no direct connection to the scripture readings or sacramentary prayers for that Feast. The composition was written in the early years succeeding Vatican II (October 11, 1962 – December 8, 1965), a time of creative freedom. The language is period specific to that time, yet the music is universal.Rehearsal recommendation:The verse text is notated in consistent eighth-notes.
