The musical contents suggest that this is a juvenile composition of the composer while student at the Bologna Conservatory. The central part of the Scherzo consists of a canon at the octave between the first violin (dux) and the viola (comes) at the distance of a quarter note.

The former theme is based on the melody that was introduced in the development section of the first movement of Sonata In C For Organ; the melody is written in the stepwise manner. As the piece is performed, one shall hear the fragmented version of the TRSCH (Thomas R. Schadl) motive. Scherzo is suitable for recital use.

Chopin’s dark, dramatic B minor Scherzo, full of suspense and wild agitation, has a contrasting slower middle section with a lyrical quotation from the Polish carol-lullaby Lulajże Jezuniu (Hush Little Jesus). It is this middle section of the Scherzo that has been adapted in this arrangement for intermediate pianists. The key has been raised a half step to C major from the original key, but the dynamics, articulation and pedalling remain virtually unaltered. Despite a certain amount of simplification, the essential character of the music still remains. The music of Chopin is often beyond the reach of many pianists, especially during their initial years of study. This new arrangement offers piano students a chance to enjoy playing one of Chopin’s finest lyrical passages without the technical challenges of the original work. With a performance time of just under three minutes, this arrangement would be ideal for a school recital concert program.
