Vocal Score based on the Richard Wagner Complete Edition edited by Wolfgang M. Wagner. Composed by Richard Wagner. This edition: vocal/piano score. Erstveröffentlichung - Oper - Theater. Wagner Urtext Piano/Vocal Scores. Downloadable, Piano reduction. Schott Music - Digital #Q25917. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25917).

German • French.

An important addition to Schott's newly published orchestral material is the first publication of piano scores for the ten major operas by Richard Wagner in all major versions. For the first time, we offer the stages and interested opera lovers piano scores as urtext editions that were designed according to uniform editorial criteria.•The score is aligned with the performance material of the Complete Edition. •All piano scores have study numbers and continuous measure numbers for rehearsal and study practice. •The editors are renowned musicologists from the circles of those working on the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who contribute detailed information on the respective editions to the critical prefaces.•The prefaces are printed in three languages (German, English, French). •The uniform appealing cover design with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era emphasizes the serial character of the edition.TANNHÄUSERFor the Richard Wagner Complete Edition, the editors Egon Voss, Peter Jost and Reinhard Strohm as well as Cristina Urchueguía have researched and presented Tannhäuser's genesis and history of more than thirty years, which also took about thirty years of scientific work, on 2,959 pages in eight volumes. With the present piano score, the findings gathered therein shall now also to be made accessible for the musical practice. (Wolfgang M. Wagner, quoted from the foreword to the new Tannhäuser piano score)The piano score unites for the first time all four stages of the work (the score as of 1845, the score as of 1860, the Paris version as of 1861/62 with the complete French text of this version, and the Vienna version as of 1875) in a single excerpt for rehearsal and study practice, thus allowing the comparison of the versions, without sacrificing practicability. All variants are printed one after the other in the chronological sequence of the action on the stage, so that each of them can be explored in their context of action by simply turning over the pages. Only two variants rejected before the Paris premiere were printed separately in the appendix. A fascinating insight into Richard Wagner's thinking in terms of stage practice and into his very precise ideas of tonal balance, scenic details and role-conception are made possible by the quotations printed in key passages from his work On the Performance of Tannhäuser, published in 1852.For example, soon after the world premiere, Wagner suggested the deletion of bars in the orchestral part in the 4th scene of Act I, reasoning that […] due to the tremendous woodenness and self-consciousness of our usual supernumeraries, the impression of overwhelming liveliness, which was intended by me and which was to imply a heightening of the mood led up to by the liveliest manifestations of life, was not achieved. (piano reduction, p. 221)In the big ensemble scene at the end of Act II, Wagner puts in a comment at a certain passage, referring to the conductor and his great responsibility for tonal balance:The exclamations 'Ach, erbarm' dich mein!' require such a piercing emphasis that he [the performer of Tannhauser] as a mere, well-trained singer is not enough; it is but the highest dramatic art that has to provide him the energy of pain and desperation for an expression that must seem to break forth from the most gruesome depths of an awfully woeful heart, like a cry for salvation. The conductor has to ensure that the implied success is made possible for the principal singer by the most discrete accompaniment of the other singers as well as of the orchestra. (piano reduction, p. 367)

This is the lullaby that I wrote for my first-born niece when she was a baby. It was composed specifically for guitar, and this copy comes complete with guitar tab as well as traditional notation. I've used an interesting tuning combination for the piece, which is why it also comes with tab, to make everything clearer. Both of the E strings are tuned up by 1 semitone to F, and the B string is de-tuned by 1 semitone to Bb. The resulting sound is pleasant, and unlike most other music out there on the classical guitar market, making it a lovely little piece to learn - and of course to serenade an infant with! It's approximately Grade 4 in standard (ABRSM), so the tuning doesn't make the piece any more difficult to play, and of course, the tab is there to make it crystal clear during the learning process how it is to be played. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did writing it. Please do take a look at another of my classical guitar compositions, Summer Sunset, which would work really well with Holly's Lullaby as a pair. Thank you for your interest in my music.  .

Sonata for Piccolo and Piano No. 1 in 4 movements.

Constructed to show off the beauty of the piccolo and piano, using lyrical open intervals and lively syncopated gestures.  Plenty of room for an organic, individual performance of two equals.  Modern, but very listenable!

1. The initiation of all wise or noble things (J. S. Mill)
2. Lalotte was affectionate, sprightly, and industrious.(H. W. Mabie)
3. Something inexpressively lovely and wonderful advancesnthrough the crystal, nearer, nearer. (A. Huxley)
4. But he failed to draw the clear and simple conclusion that every man is an artist.  (J. Beuys)

The audio sample has excepts from each movement.

Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Classical,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score. 11 pages. Phil Beaman #737590. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1137387).

Psalm 22 is a well-known and loved 8 part a capella choral work by Felix Mendelssohn. I have here arranged it for Organ Solo. Psalm 22 is about a person crying out to God to save him from his enemies, then thanks God for rescuing him. Thus, the first half is in E minor and the second half is in E major. Since it no longer has lyrics to convey the meaning I have used new tempi, dynamics, and registration, and also altered some harmonies and rhythms to add the appropriate interest and emotion. In order to create dialogue on the organ I have used unmetered recitative chant followed by metered antiphon in many places. In another section I use overlapping call and response between the hands and manuals. These are interspersed with 4 part Chorales. The mood constantly shifts throughout in many short sections, but the beauty is in the way they fit together creating harmony and polyphony and dialogued emotions. This is a great 9 minute organ Prelude which bridges the Classical and Romantic eras. 9:15 minutes; 11 pages (Apologies- I was in a hurry to record this, so there are a couple of wrong notes and rhythmic inaccuracies in the recording.).

The alchemist

Flames in the dark sparkle

voice whispering echoes

They say about you

Sell useless dreams

they say about me that I’m too much frail

You are shutting down the day of this city

the lights switch on of different realities

and time dilates , begins another life

It is tacit ritual of a sad tribes

You firefly who shine

can you tell me where he is?

I seek the alchemist , you see yourself

from my eyes rimmed

on the nothing  wide open

they are full of fears and resemble your

And here it is your circus , you wait me already

not much has changed from a lifetime ago

you do not, you are not aged

a Peter Pan sick , who deduct his sins in the lives of others

clown you always have so many , acrobats tired

poised always between dream and reality

and as a cat, I also see in the dark

and over the waste to me slowly and then die

the crises, then anxiety , that imperfect woman

I do not stand me  anymore

I who have never been a daughter , your promise of another family

and this need for love, that torture and kill me

While you brush my long hair , from your hands give off crystals

bright lights exploding inside

as if by magic now I belong to you

snakes tattooed lean on your hips

we float in the sea of time

how does I exist? always or yesterday

I do not remember but only mysteries

You adult  man and I young girl

abracadabra, as all before

I tired and old and you still a child

us travelers in a bogus time

and while I explore the emptiness I have inside

Nothing is sweeter than this torment

You prepare the potion , the right proportion , the antidote and poison

but you put more passion , My animal instinct

and add a little 'of gall for those who have hurt me

Mix all right , only you know what to do

you seals good my heart , can not serve me

evil plots to good , with fumes and vapors , ampoules almost full ,please ... let me drink ...

But you can not , and I stay here , prisoner of your invisible world

We like vampires , breath broken by sighs , arms forward, off eyes

alchemist turn off my complaints

You like a zombie , ready to sink your teeth ,that fascinates me and scares

alchemist dissolve my torments ..

but you can not .. and I stay here

I'm looking for the courage to live

It is being born on the day of this city

Milano  colored yourself with its activities

shorten the shadows , the sun shines and a veil hiding now all his vices

and my pace is tired , my face a bit 'more haggard  ,emptiness inside me and where are you?

I run always and do not know where I go

I look back , I stumble and then I fall

Slow walk among the tired souls

alive but in a state of apparent death

rips in the soul and on my clothes

I have no tattoos, scars only

and as the salt do  on the wounds

I burn at the memory of bad choices

Iron bars are closed . echoes of voices  deafen

They say about you that you no longer have a tear

they say about me that I’m free woman ...

THREE LABE SONNETS for mezzo-soprano and piano is a collection of settings by Louise Labé, (1520-1566), a female French Renaissance poet. Labé was fluent in Latin and Italian, and a trained musician. She wrote twenty-four sonnets.
 TRANSLATION
Sonnet VIII - I Live, I Die I live, I die, I burn with fire, I drown. It matters very little what I feel; All life is now too real, now too surreal; Joy comes and endless boredom weighs me down, And suddenly I laugh and then I cry; With grief and bliss I’m weeping for the past; Good feelings go away and yet they last, And suddenly I bleed and then I sigh. That’s how it goes. Strange, ever changing love Has worn me out. I wish I were removed From such a star-crossed fate! I need a truce With Lady Luck. Again and yet again, Her wheel is spinning madly to produce This wanton, wild, intense, exquisite pain.

Sonnet XVIII - O Kiss Me O kiss me, kiss me, re-kiss me, and kiss! Be reckless, impudent, hot-headed, bold! O woo me! Pursue me! Kiss me like this: And I’ll give back fifty as hot as red coals. There, is it hurting? Come, let’s soothe the pain. I’ll give you sixty others just like these. And so we’ll kiss again and then again, While we enjoy each other at our ease. I know there’s fire within your unshaped clay, And so, allow me, love, to share my happiness: O let’s make burning passion rule today. I’m fond of doing what I love to do, Yet cannot feel supreme delight unless I have my other wild encounters, too.

Sonnet XIV - As Long As Tears As long as tears can well up in my eyes I’m saddened that our nights are marked by pain. And now my voice expresses once again A plaintive melody I’ve improvised. As long as I can pluck the lute, I try To sing about your charms in my refrain. As long as I can think, my fevered brain Is burning with an ardent zeal. I cry And cry a hundred thousand times for you. But when I feel my whirling thoughts grow still, And when both hand and voice won’t work their will, Because your treachery is piercing through My heart, I’ll know there’s just one final way. I’ll ask for Death to darken that bleak day.

My Cabaret Songs are an ongoing collection of songs that speak from the heart. I have sought poems to interpret musically that address the human condition. In Out of Danger, by James Fenton, the works have been woven into a complex fabric of emotion. Whatever Happened to Love in this World is a setting of lyrics composed by my son, Christoper Neil. And the set concludes with Encryption, a setting of original poem. My music seeks to illuminate these subtle nuances and bring power to their meaning. The harmonic coloring is rich and the melodies are lyrical with an emotional intensity that I believe the vocalist can really embrace.

Composed by Michael C. Brown. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score. 23 pages. Michael C. Brown #4051. Published by Michael C. Brown (A0.1030831).

This piece celebrates the life and mourns the loss of my granddaughter, Paisley Gladys Hogan, who was but 2 months old when she was called to Heaven. These are the words I wrote just before her funeral.... I. The Presence - She was here. I held her the day she was born. I held her and watched her smile at me less than 24 hours before she departed. She only knew love. No one around her ever showed her anything else that humanity had to offer; like hatred, heartache, pain, control, or anger. II. The Shock - She feels a Hand beckon her to leave her mortal coil, and she enters into a world we cannot yet reach.. With no one home, her former body ceases to wake. The unimaginable has happened and we struggle to reverse it. Finally, it becomes clear that we cannot. She sees us cry and she wonders what is happening. Having never known sorrow, she only sees that love didn't cause this response. She wants to comfort us with the love she knows, but we do not yet sense it. III. The Questions - One word has confounded mankind from its creation; Why? We have never found an acceptable answer. We ask, Why did this happen? and What did I do? and What didn't we do right? and Why couldn't it have been me? among others. We only know that her absence has carved holes in our hearts shaped like her. She tries to tell us, You can still love me. I just cannot be seen by you now. It does not mean your love cannot make me happy. I still want it. I still feel it. Please feel my love for you. IV. Letting Go - The day comes to bid farewell to the vehicle by which she came to us. We struggle to cope that we will see her face no more except in pictures. Because of the brevity of her life, memories are few to relive, but to do so is to recall happiness. In sorrow, we return her to the earth. All that is left is to return to recall, to talk to her, to bring flowers and other gifts, and to await the day we follow her. V. Remembering - The days and years follow. Normalcy slowly sets back into our lives. The holes in our hearts will never fully heal. But the salve of her love and her memory help to soothe the ache. We still return to where we placed her mortal home, where we laugh and cry in tandem, where our hearts ache to fill the void left by her departure. It will never really get better, but it will become easier for her love to dull the sting of her absence. VI. The Reunion - One by one, we will feel the same Hand bid us to come. The same events will befall those left behind each time. One by one, she will greet us as we reunite with her. We marvel at how she has stayed with us as we stay to comfort those we had just bidden farewell. The rest cannot be imagined by we that remain..........

Composed by David Perkins. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Wedding. Score. 7 pages. David Perkins #5718135. Published by David Perkins (A0.905628).

Originally a setting of a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, this piece arranged for piano solo, has become a wordless song in its own right. The somewhat cryptic title is a line taken from the original poem. This and seven other pieces forms a suite of pieces entitled As Wordless as the Windy Sky:

1   Can Those Boats Be Only Rooftops?
2   The Sandy Path That Leads Me Down
3   A Kingdom of its Own
4   As Wordless as the Windy Sky
5   Let Me Count the Ways
6   That Quite Unprecedented Three
7   Screened From the Public Gaze
8   When the Long Trick's Over

Together they create a broadly biographical sequence from the imagination of childhood, through holidays, religion, love, the pleasures of the middle years to the inevitability of old age. The whole suite of music is available on SMP in one book As Wordless as the Windy Sky (Book) or as separate pieces.
