This hauntingly beautiful aria from the finale of Purcell's, Dido and Aeneas, is rightly one of the most famous in baroque opera. Thinking his love for her has faded, Dido sends Aeneas away but unable to go on with out him, takes poison and sings this lament in the arms of her maid, Belinda. (Here in F# minor, baroque pitch, suitable for sopranos).
