This is my brand new flute piece Freeway Freedom for 2 flutes and piano (or backing track). The backing track has a hint of 60's pop - and in creating it I tried to give the piece a carefree, feelgood style. It would also work as a piece for flute solo. This patriotic piece was written to honor those who have been willing to sacrifice everything to fight for the freedoms that we all enjoy in the United States of America. The powerful words serve as a reminder to those of us who have not served in the Armed Forces that our freedom was bought with a heavy price and that we should be thankful for those who give up having a normal life to defend our great nation. The lyrics were composed by Opelika, Alabama resident, Doug Long, who was currently serving as Assistant to the Music Minister at Purpose Baptist Church in Opelika. The Music Minister at the time was Rev. Tim Addy, who put the words to music. .

Written for the early intermediate guitarist who is just getting into fingerstyle, this arrangement is suitable for recital, worship, or a solo gig. Oh, Freedom begins with a slow, free verse. After the initial rubato statement, it breaks into a light swing, then a shout chorus, and finally ends simply and freely, the way it began. An interesting spiritual in that it was written after the Civil War and therefore after the slaves had been freed. However, as the struggles of African-Americans continued, it has become a prominent song in the march for equality, even into the 21st century. A relaxed, dignified setting with expressive phrases and some chromaticism which adds to its emotive quality. Duration 3:15.
