Tango d’Elinora is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Tenor Saxophone.

Tango first appeared as in the late nineteenth century in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but it wasn’t long before the dance craze spread to North America and Europe. Performers like Carlos Gardel were the international superstars of their day. More recently the Nuevo Tango of Astor Piazzolla and others has pushed the boundaries and ensured that Tango is still a vibrant art form today.

Calypso d’Isaac is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Clarinet.

This duet is written in the style of Calypso music. Calypso’s roots lie in West Africa but first appeared in recognisable form in the late 19th century in Trinidad.  Originally sung in French Creole, the music quickly spread throughout the Caribbean and Venezuela. The modern English-language Trinidadian style is often topical and political in content. Calypso performers such as Mighty Sparrow in turn have inspired new styles such as Ska, Reggae and Soca, while Calypso rhythms can be heard in countless international hits such as Mary’s Boy Child and Disney’s Under the Sea.

Chocolate Chalypso is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist.
