A short Instrumental Trio which is a chord progression piece like those written by Chopin and Schumann, but here brought into the 21st century with hints of New Age and Jazz. It is homophonic (the parts all move together.) Throughout it is easy crotchets (quarter notes). There are several dynamic markings to observe. There are some accidentals, mostly in the lowest 3rd part which often moves chromatically. This makes the the chord progression sometimes unpredictable and non-traditional so students must listen to tune well.

For this unaccompanied duet arrangement the melody was creatively deconstructed into two parts that continuously interact as if each instrument is finishing the other's thoughts. The harmonies are inspired by the original double stops. The arrangement remains stylistically faithful to Reger's use of constantly shifting dynamics and ever-present expression marks. This 4 1/2 minute work is a worthy challenge for a serious concert or recital. A new approach to this Masterwork of the repertoire. A live performance will be considerably freer and more expressive than the temporary MIDI recording attached. Range - same note range for both parts which is a wide 2 1/2 octaves. 5 page score, 3 pages each part.

In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. There are interpretive marks in every measure as each part independently adds to the stunning polyphonic weaving. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. A great piece to show your musicianship as a group. To be played warmly and with passion to welcome people to your Roadside Inn.
