SKU: A0.591114

Composed by David McKeown. Easter,Folk,Pop,R & B,Rock. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #6274701. Published by David McKeown (A0.591114).

Daffodil Doo-Wop is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Soprano Saxophone and one Clarinet.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets, each written in a different Rock’n’Roll style. Doo-wop reached the height of its popularity in the early ‘60s but its origins were in the African-American vocal harmony groups in East Coast cities in the ‘40s. Doo-Wop was a major influence on the soul and pop music that followed it, with groups such as the Drifters, the Four Seasons and even the Beach Boys adopting the vocal harmonies.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a playing-time of around two minutes, Daffodil Doo-Wop is a perfect addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Tango d’Elinora is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Alto Saxophone.

This duet is written in the style of early twentieth century Tango music. Tango first appeared as in the late nineteenth century in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but it wasn’t long before the dance craze spread to North America and Europe. Performers like Carlos Gardel were the international superstars of their day. More recently the Nuevo Tango of Astor Piazzolla and others has pushed the boundaries and ensured that Tango is still a vibrant art form today.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated with the first beat in the bar always strong; the melody should always flow and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Tango d’Elinora has a performance time of just under three minutes. Follow the link above to listen to a complete YouTube performance of the Clarinet version of Tango d’Elinora.

Salsa de Shibby is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Tenor Saxophone.

This duet is based on the style of Salsa. The name Salsa was first used in 1960s New York to describe the popular and commercial dance music made by Latin emigrés in the city. Most of the musical and structural ideas came straight from Cuban Son Montuno, but the lack of one single traditional root has allowed musicians from different Latin American countries to bring their own flavours to the music. Given the tensions between the US and Cuba, there have been accusations of cultural appropriation and Cubans dislike the word Salsa, but there is no denying the music’s worldwide appeal.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Salsa de Shibby has a performance time of just over two and a half minutes. You can listen to a full performance the Clarinet version of this duet by following the YouTube link above.

Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by David McKeown. Concert,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 5 pages. David McKeown #4833255. Published by David McKeown (A0.587735).

Nimrod, is the ninth of the Enigma Variations composed by Edward Elgar in 1899. Here, the music is arranged for solo Tenor Saxophone and Piano, directly from the orchestral score. Elgar wrote fourteen variations on a theme, each one depicting close friends and family. Nimrod represents his publisher and friend Augustus Jaeger. The biblical character of Nimrod is described as a mighty hunter, and jaeger means hunter in German.

The single pdf file contains both the piano score and a separate solo instrumental part.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. Both parts require dramatic dynamic contrasts and lyrical legato playing. The overall performance time is around three minutes.

Composed by Carson Cooman. Concert,Contemporary,Folk,Standards. Individual part. 7 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3030251. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533596).

Ancient Airs (2004) for solo soprano saxophone was written for and is dedicated to
saxophonist Paul Wehage. It is in two movements, each with a spirit of ancient airs
re-imagined in a modern context. The ancestry of most woodwind instruments as folk
instruments is the inspiration for the work's concept. The piece should always be
played with a lyrical, singing approach.
Beyond the Mountain uses as its basic musical material a simple transformation of a
modal melody in D minor. Gradually tones are added borrowed from other
modalities. The opening section is slow and lyrical. The middle section is more
active -- contrasting the D minor chord tones with the added diminished tones of the
first section. The final section recalls the material of the opening with a wider
transformation.
Forgotten Incantation uses a wider modal language than the first movement.
Although still generally slow and song-like, it is more energetic. Energetic gestures
interrupt and drive the song narrative forwards.

7.40pm is a traditional Russian Jewish tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Tenor Saxophone.

It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.

7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo.  7.40pm is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of 7.40pm is perfect for recital and concert performances, both formal and informal. Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Tenor Saxophone.

Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast.

Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Silver Wedding is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three minutes, this version of Silver Wedding is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.
