This arrangement of This Joyful Eastertide is written for string orchestra.  It includes a third violin part which doubles as viola or can also be used by violinists who are not quite up to Violin II technical difficulty.  In addition the Violin II is divisi
part way through and including the ending.  The work begins in the key of Eb Major and modulates on the last verse to A Major.  This composition is well within the capabilities of the Intermediate student or adult community orchestra.  Third  position is used only for a few bars in the Violin I part.

The words for this song were written as a poem by my late mother-in-law Olivia Morgan (94) about the love of her adopted country Australia. She originally came from her ancestral home in England when she was 14. She spent her early years in Australia on a cattle station. Many years later she wrote a poem. Olivia asked me to set her poem to music, which I did in 1990 in the style of an anthem. It has since been performed by the local symphony orchestra and full choir. This setting is for SATB Choir and Orchestra with or without piano accompaniment. Ravel Piano Trio String Orchestra . The third, slow movement from Maurice Ravel's Piano Trio (1915) is titled Passacaille, the French equivalent to the Italian Passacaglia, an old Baroque theme and variations form built around a haunting bass melody that recurs through ever changing contexts as the texture builds and more dense harmonies are explored. Ravel's intuitive utilization of the piano's vast range and sonorous qualities have been fully realized and reimagined on a more grand, but equally intimate level for a full string orchestra with the use of a Violin and 'Cello soloists to recreate a chamber music experience that's striking to the ears of the listener.

Perfect for students and sounds great in churches/temples/places of worship.

The Fallen for flute solo and strings composed by Mark O’Connor in three movements was commissioned by two different flutists for their respective music festivals in the summer of 2003; Marya Martin for the 20th anniversary of her Bridghampton Festival in New York, and Beth Ross-Buckley at her Camarada Festival in San Diego. The compositional process for the piece began for O’Connor in 2003, the very day the war was launched in Iraq. The piece was finished about three weeks later around the time the statues of the Iraqi dictator fell in Baghdad. This music is a reflection of the people who lost their lives in the war. This particular impact on his music makes for quite a different result from O’Connor’s usual optimism. However he finds a way to weave in a sense of a better future in the third movement. By transforming the tragic and darker qualities of the first movement’s themes, and making a departure from the quirky feet on the ground playfulness of the second movement, here O’Connor yearns and urges for a more beautiful world.

Max Bruch's Adagio on Celtic Melodies is part of a collection of concertante pieces for cello and orchestra. While cellists have fewer concertos compared to their violinist counterparts, Bruch's cello compositions are celebrated. The Adagio's sketches date back to 1890 when Bruch was recovering from his Breslau conductor post. Originally titled Andante on Nordic Folk Tunes, it features Scottish and Irish melodies, eventually adopting the title Celtic due to its distinctive sound. Jacques Rensburg, a cellist, may have been the work's dedicatee. Simrock published it as op. 56 in 1891, also releasing a version for violin and piano.

This arrangement has a ‘little’ bit of the feel of a Bruce Hornsby type song for the piano and rhythm section. Though it has some life and energy to it, there are no tricky rhythms in this arrangement. This should be a pretty easy arrangement to pull together with limited rehearsal time that sounds GREAT!

This arrangement begins in the Key of Eb and changes keys to F. You don’t have to have a rhythm section to play this piece. It’s great if you do, but it’s not critical. As long as you have a piano player, they can play the written out piano part and you are good to go.

Nimrod, the ninth variation of Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, is a slow movement of incredible emotional power. The wide leaps in the melody, as well as those in the inner parts, have a lot to do with this. I have tried to retain the original score's emotional power in this arrangement for chamber orchestra: strings plus seven single winds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone). There is also an optional piano part, which adds depth and can solidify intonation.
