SKU: A0.589598

Composed by Yakow Jadow. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6080587. Published by David McKeown (A0.589598).

Bublitschki is a Ukrainian/Jewish Folk song, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violas.

Bublitschki was written in 1922 by Yakov Jadow. The title means pretzels in Russian and was inspired by the pretzel sellers by the railway station in Odessa. Jadow observed that the street-vendors were poverty-stricken and wrote the song as a lament. Initially popular in the Soviet Union, a recording by the Barry Sisters in 1939 brought this song to an international audience.

Bublitschki is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in two sections and is played twice with a short coda and constant variations in the accompaniment. Bublitschki is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of just over three minutes, this version of Bublitschki is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal. God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen is a much-loved, traditional English, Christmas carol. This version is arranged as a duet in a jazz/swing style for two Violas. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet

God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen first appeared in print in 1760 but is thought to date back to the 16th century or earlier. It is mentioned in Charles Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol.

With a performance time around two and a half minutes, this version of God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz swing style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.

God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Rhythms are syncopated, as one would expect in a jazz piece, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic swing style. The melody is played three times, with a short intro and outro. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate or early advanced level.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Violas.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets, each written in a different Rock’n’Roll style. Doo-wop reached the height of its popularity in the early ‘60s but its origins were in the African-American vocal harmony groups in East Coast cities in the ‘40s. Doo-Wop was a major influence on the soul and pop music that followed it, with groups such as the Drifters, the Four Seasons and even the Beach Boys adopting the vocal harmonies.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a playing-time of around two minutes, Daffodil Doo-Wop is a perfect addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Composed by David McKeown. Holiday,Jewish,Love,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6235799. Published by David McKeown (A0.590792).

×ַהֲבָה, (Ahava, Hebrew for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violas, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the slow formal dances used in traditional Jewish weddings in Israel and elsewhere. Klezmer music originated in Eastern Europe but has since spread around the world, its bitter sweet melodies and instruments imitating the human voice perfectly reflecting the complex emotion of love.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The melody is always expressive and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. ×ַהֲבָה has a performance time of around three and a half minutes. Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #5728669. Published by David McKeown (A0.589108).

Huapango de Hannah is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violas. The Huapango is a traditional Mexican style of music and dance, often mixing triple and duple metres. It is played on violin, accordion, and local 5-string variants of the guitar such as the vihuela, huapanguera and jarana. The Huapango rhythm famously inspired the song America in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The mixed metres, alternating between 6/8 and 3/4, will present a rhythmic challenge, while following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the dance style of the Huapango. Huapango de Hannah has a performance time of around two minutes. You can listen to the Clarinet version of this duet by following the YouTube link above.

SKU: A0.587517

Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by David McKeown. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score. 7 pages. David McKeown #4354155. Published by David McKeown (A0.587517).

Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.

This full version is arranged as a duet for two Violas and the performance time is around 6 minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and interchangeable. Repeats may also be ignored. Follow the links above to hear a short sample or watch a complete performance on youtube. The samples are from the clarinet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.
