Viola Duet Viola - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.587431

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by David McKeown. Classical,Concert,Instructional,Opera,Standards. Score. 3 pages. David McKeown #3237415. Published by David McKeown (A0.587431).

Der Vogelfanger bin ich Ja, (The Birdcatcher’s Song) is an aria from the first act of Mozart’s comic opera, The Magic Flute. It has become one of Mozart’s best loved melodies and features the birdcatcher Papageno. In the first production the role was played by the producer and theatre owner. He was not a trained singer so Mozart deliberately wrote a simple melody of limited range. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violas

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for the voice. The overall performance time is around a minute and a half. The full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this duet.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.

Grá, (Irish for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violas.

This duet is inspired by the Irish sean-nós style of singing. Originally sung unaccompanied in the Irish Gaelic language, in more recent times the melodies have been adapted as instrumentals, harmonised and given accompaniment. The songs are most often about love and loss and Grá aims to capture this melancholy mood.

Grá is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. Expressive throughout, the first part of the melody is played above a drone. Simple accompaniment then builds towards a climax before the melody slips away like a distant echo. Players can add their own appropriate ornaments and variations to the melody if they wish. Grá has a performance time of a little over three minutes. Composed by Wallis Willis. Arranged by David McKeown. Christian,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6141245. Published by David McKeown (A0.590096).

Steal Away to Jesus is an American nineteenth century spiritual. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violas.

The words and music of Steal Away to Jesus are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. The words have a meaning beyond the spiritual, with hidden references to the Underground Railway of the time that helped escaped slaves cross to Canada. In more recent times Steal Away to Jesus was arranged by Michael Tippett in 1944 and recorded famously by Mahalia Jackson and Nat King Cole.

Steal Away to Jesus is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The song is played several times as a ballad, with ever changing accompaniment. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.

Steal Away to Jesus is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three and a half minutes, this version of Steal Away to Jesus is perfect for worship and concert performances, both formal and informal.

L’Amour, (Love in French),is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violas. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.

This duet is inspired by the French Chanson style associated with café life in Paris and beyond. This music has its roots in La Belle Epoque and was popularized by singers such as Édith Piaf, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. Long associated with romance, L’Amour is just what’s needed when love is in the air.

L’Amour is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. The melody should always flow; following the articulation in the score and adding plenty of expression will help convey the style. L’Amour has a performance time of around three minutes.
