Viola Duet Viola - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.587431

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by David McKeown. Classical,Concert,Instructional,Opera,Standards. Score. 3 pages. David McKeown #3237415. Published by David McKeown (A0.587431).

Der Vogelfanger bin ich Ja, (The Birdcatcher’s Song) is an aria from the first act of Mozart’s comic opera, The Magic Flute. It has become one of Mozart’s best loved melodies and features the birdcatcher Papageno. In the first production the role was played by the producer and theatre owner. He was not a trained singer so Mozart deliberately wrote a simple melody of limited range. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violas

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for the voice. The overall performance time is around a minute and a half. The full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this duet.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.

Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. Score. 7 pages. David McKeown #5741765. Published by David McKeown (A0.589110).

Mambo de Maya is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violas.

This duet is based on the fast, traditional Latin style of Mambo that emerged in Cuba in the 1930s. Later, when Mambo and its dance steps spread to Mexico and New York, hugely successful band leaders like Perez Prado and Tito Puente borrowed ideas from Big-Band Jazz and produced the bold and brassy sound we associate with Mambo today.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady Mambo bell rhythm is implied throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style. Melodies are clearly articulated and played with passion. Mambo de Maya has a performance time of around two and a half minutes at full tempo. You can listen to a full performance the Clarinet version of this duet by following the YouTube link above.

Composed by Traditional Irish. Arranged by David McKeown. Celtic,Contemporary,Folk,Holiday,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013343. Published by David McKeown (A0.589120).

The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for two Violas.

The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.

Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. Odessa Bulgar is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violas.

For many traditional Klezmer tunes, the first clues of their existence comes from bands making discs at the dawn of the recording era. In this case, Odessa Bulgar first appeared in a 1919 recording by Abe Schwartz’s Orchestra. Schwartz was born in Romania and emigrated to the USA around 1900, thereafter enjoying a long career in the music industry. Odessa Bulgar is a happy piece designed for dancing at celebrations.

Odessa Bulgar is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Odessa Bulgar is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Odessa Bulgar is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.
