Yet, this whole idea of music of the night did not originate with him, but with John Field. Clementi's sorely-tried apprentice and protege', and a confirmed alcoholic, moved from London and Clementi's captivity to spend his adulthood, short as it was, in Moscow, of all places. It was there he began to write his long series of romantic, ( small R? ) pieces, with simple vocalistic melodies, over an arpeggiated left-hand bass. This piece marks the beginning of the genre, and, as such, warrants the attention of everyone who admires Chopin's works. Our setting here uses chord symbols for every LH arpeggio, so that the player can get used to harmonic identification as the primary means of seeing and hearing the LH. All the ornamentation is written out, for stylistic clarity. As with so much classical music, a slow pace brings out lingering subtleties, while a faster one can create movement and excitement, if one has the technique! MBB .

Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! One of the soundtracks that I get asked to perform most regularly is Test Drive by John Powell. This is one of the earlier transcriptions I wrote, and I often use it as a piece to illustrate the difference between different organs. It’s quite useful to have one piece to use as a comparison point, so I post little videos of this wherever I’m playing to demonstrate how radically different the same piece of music can sound depending on the kind of instrument. For me, this piece feels like an instant serotonin boost. There is a great crescendo where you get to take the organ from relatively quiet to earth-shatteringly loud over the course of about 30 seconds, and I always say that playing that part feels a bit like flying a dragon! - Anna Lapwood

If the film did exist, I’d like to think that this music would make a suitable accompaniment to the French photographer’s haunting images. In 2005 I saw an exhibition of Atget's work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and was captivated by his photos of Old Paris in the early 20th Century. He viewed his images as documents rather than art but they are beautifully atmospheric and influenced the Surrealists. Of course, this Gymnope�die was also inspired by Erik Satie who lived and worked in Paris around the same time as Atget (although I don't know if they ever met). I did an arrangement for woodwind quintet and made an extent use of interpretation symbols like fortes and pianos, crescendos etc., wish where total absent in the original score.  I also had to shorten the length of some notes in order to facilitate the interpretation of the piece on woodwind instruments. Otherwise all the original notes are left unchanged.  The score was written on Finale.  The sound file, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. Though, a bit jazzy, it still retains reverence for use in a Christian Worship Service, as special music.  It's basically a new version of the old favorite hymn, for solo presentation.  The song was written for a Baritone or Tenor voice, but works quite well with higher octave voices also.  Most singers will find the range to be comfortable.  In addition to the vocal part, the sheet music includes a full score (drum set included) and a piano part.  Also included is a Lead Sheet with Guitar Chord markings.
