Menuett No. 6 was originally  written for pianoforte.   Because of its caracter, It can work perfectly as an introduction piece or for a little surprise encore in the end of a concert.  It is also very easy to play, very appropriate for music students and beginners. And of course righten by no other than Mozart it is the perfect  piece for great artists and performers. The original score was written for the pianoforte. I did an arrangement for woodwind quintet and made an extent use of interpretation symbols like fortes and pianos, crescendos etc., wish where total absent in the original score.  I also had to shorten the length of some notes in order to facilitate the interpretation of the piece on woodwind instruments. Otherwise all the original notes are left unchanged.  The score was written on Finale.  The sound file, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. With his permission I later arranged the tune as a piano solo, adding a John Field theme as the basis for the introduction. Years later, after being stricken with cancer, Dick wrote this text to fit the piano arrangement. I then arranged the piece for SATB choir (opt. mixed quartet), and added a light orchestration. Sadly we had to say goodbye to Dick in 2022 as he made the crossing that he had so eloquently anticipated in this text.The demo mp3 is computer-generated, and thus lacks some of the nuance which you would–of course–include in live performance!I will post the orchestration (or String Quartet and Flute or Oboe) separately.

The incomplete Exercise d’harmonie is the only Conservatory exercise that Tailleferre kept and clearly shows the influence of Wagner at the time of her studies. The Marche funèbre (comique) was probably from a film score in the late 1930s, « Chats » was part of a documentary film score about animals vers 1950 and Course à l’échalotte was also probably from a film score, evoking children’s games.

Requiem for the PequodCaptain Ahab’s story of obsession, and ultimate failure at the hands of Moby Dick is, of course, a well-worn cautionary tale. The tale of the Pequod, the ship that also met its demise as a result of Ahab’s actions is, in my eyes, worth examining. Requiem for the Pequod begins with Two Bells, tolled to mark the end of the day before Ahab and his crew set sail. The minor theme, played by a solo flute, sets the mood as restful, but somewhat ominous at the same time; treatments by the brass in chorale style and then the full ensemble follow. The next three sections beginning at letter A feature up-tempo variations on the main theme (Setting Sail) followed by a lively Sailor’s Shanty at letter D, both depicting carefree life at sea. A return to a melancholy minor theme at letter E portrays the tedium of Months at Sea as the Pequod and her crew travel toward their destination, unaware of the fate that awaits them. The penultimate section beginning at letter F (Fait Awaits) depicts the culminating battle, from the stirring of Moby Dick beneath the waves to the sinking of the Pequod and the death of Ahab and the crew, save Ishmael, who recounts the tragic tale in the final section Epilogue.
