Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.856207 By Mika. By Dan Warner, Jodi Marr, John Merchant, and Mika. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Dance,Pop. Octavo. 6 pages. Liz Garnett #4312139. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856207). Mika's hit from 2007 is an exuberant (and at times petulant) critique of the way the music industry seeks out individuality and talent, then insists on working it over into safely commercial products. (Of course, that he had such success with it suggests that things aren't quite as bad as the song makes out.) But the song also works as a more general statement about everyone's personal stand against the tyranny of our peers' expectations. The original has a very rangy melody, which carries a considerable variety of vocal characterisation. The arrangement unfolds this onto the four different parts, each taking on certain aspects of the line's mercurial identity. Sharing the melody's vocal demands around does not necessarily make either the characterisation or the ranges easier, however, since it also means that every part is switching between lead and accompanying roles, at times quite quickly. So it needs generous ranges, quick-wittedness and - above all - performative swagger to carry it off. There is space for the snippets of dialogue from the original track; but whether (and how much) to use it would depend on the performance situation. My own feeling would be that the middle one ('getting angry won't solve anything') works just fine slotted in between the verses, but that the snippets at start and end would need more setting up to make sense to an audience unfamiliar with Mika's recording.N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.Vocal Ranges:Tenor: E flat 4 - F5Lead: F3 - F5Bari: G3 - C5Bass: E flat 3 - B flat 4NB - the list price includes 4 copies of the music

Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.747086 By Randy Travis. By Roger Miller. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Contemporary. 27 pages. Keith Terrett #6426723. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.747086). An arrangement of the classic King of the Road for Wind Dectet.King of the Road is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a man of means by no means), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the king of the road. It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. Miller recalled that the song was inspired when he was driving and saw a sign on the side of a barn that read, Trailers for sale or rent. This would become the opening line of the song. The song has been covered by many other artists, including George Jones, Dean Martin, Val Doonican, Jack Jones, James Booker, The Fabulous Echoes, Boney M., R.E.M., Johnny Paycheck, Glen Campbell, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Boxcar Willie, Randy Travis, Rangers, James Kilbane, John Stevens, the Statler Brothers, Rufus Wainwright & Teddy Thompson, Giant Sand, Peligro, John Williamson (singer) & Adam Harvey, The Proclaimers, Ray Conniff Singers, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim White. James The King Brown (an Elvis impersonator) performed the song for a 2001 Audi commercial on German TV. Of R.E.M.'s version, a shambolic, drunken, offhand rendering, guitarist Peter Buck would later comment, If there was any justice in the world, Roger Miller should be able to sue for what we did to this song.King of the Road was performed live by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton during Miller's posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 1995 CMA Awards ceremony. The song appears in Wim Wenders's 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit (In the Course of Time; English title Kings of the Road). It is also played at the beginning of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild (2007), Traveller (1997), and Swingers (1996). Miller performs it in the concert film The Big T.N.T. Show. The Proclaimers' version is included in the film The Crossing (1990). Near the end of their official music video, the pair are shown reading a newspaper whose headline is Roger Miller, King of Plugs.Miller's recording appears in an episode of the Super Dave TV show, where Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) sings along while sitting at a piano mounted on top of his tour bus. The bus eventually goes into a low tunnel, slamming into the piano and Osborne and pushing them off the bus and onto the ground.A send-up version by English entertainer Billy Howard was a British chart hit in 1976.A German take by the band Wise Guys exists, the parody referring to speeding on the Autobahn.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726433 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Kenneth Baird. Folk,Graduation,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 27 pages. Kenneth Baird Music #6058859. Published by Kenneth Baird Music (A0.726433). My Country Tis of Thee - Honor America with this new young band arrangement of one of our most beloved traditional patriotic melodies. Of course, this is the same melody as God Save the Queen, so it would work great for UK bands, too. Set in the key of Eb major, this impressive arrangement stays within easy ranges for all instruments and includes a few meter changes from three-four to four-four that will keep your young players on their toes. A rehearsal piano part is included for smaller bands missing instrumentation. Perfect for a second-year band that has a performance early in the school year. Approximately a Grade 1 ½ or an easy 2.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1303052 By Jay Jordan. By Jay Jordan. Arranged by Jay Jordan. Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Historic. Score and Parts. 105 pages. Pro Creations Music #892637. Published by Pro Creations Music (A0.1303052). Requiem for the PequodCaptain Ahab’s story of obsession, and ultimate failure at the hands of Moby Dick is, of course, a well-worn cautionary tale. The tale of the Pequod, the ship that also met its demise as a result of Ahab’s actions is, in my eyes, worth examining. Requiem for the Pequod begins with Two Bells, tolled to mark the end of the day before Ahab and his crew set sail. The minor theme, played by a solo flute, sets the mood as restful, but somewhat ominous at the same time; treatments by the brass in chorale style and then the full ensemble follow. The next three sections beginning at letter A feature up-tempo variations on the main theme (Setting Sail) followed by a lively Sailor’s Shanty at letter D, both depicting carefree life at sea. A return to a melancholy minor theme at letter E portrays the tedium of Months at Sea as the Pequod and her crew travel toward their destination, unaware of the fate that awaits them. The penultimate section beginning at letter F (Fait Awaits) depicts the culminating battle, from the stirring of Moby Dick beneath the waves to the sinking of the Pequod and the death of Ahab and the crew, save Ishmael, who recounts the tragic tale in the final section Epilogue.

Jazz Combo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220916 By Wes Montgomery. By John L. (Wes) Montgomery and Sascha Burland. Arranged by Arranged by Alan Fagan & Dr. LeRoy Henry. 20th Century,Blues,Jazz,Standards. 7 pages. Dr. LeRoy Henry #817258. Published by Dr. LeRoy Henry (A0.1220916).      Fortunately for us, guitarist Wes Montgomery went over to Europe in the spring of 1965 and toured. We're lucky, because Montgomery wound up on European TV shows during many of his stops, resulting in lots of video clips.      Wes was filmed May 7 in England with pianist Stan Tracey, bassist Rick Laird, and drummer Jackie Dougan. This session is quite different from the April 4 session in Belgium with pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Arthur Harper and drummer Jimmy Lovelaceand the April 2, 1965 session in Holland with pianist Pim Jacobs, bassist Ruud Jacobs and drummer Han Bennink in that it includes commentary from club owner Ronnie Scott, who explains the career and music of Wes Montgomery as if he were giving a lecture. The music, of course, features more of Montgomery's great stuff with personable glimpses at each of the artists. The quartet swings and seems to enjoy every minute of the show. The guitarist's West Coast Blues, in particular, makes this video stand out as an unforgettable piece of jazz history.     An interesting thing about this video, the horn section did not know that the chord changes for solos were different than the changes for the theme. One can imagine that Wes was not traveling with a Real Book so the group did not learn this from paper. This arrangement corrects that issue and includes a head chart for the rhythm section and a version for guitar with tablature. It also includes trumpet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone.
