The work includes many of the trademarks of my writing, with winding melodic lines, interwoven crunchy harmonies, and high-energy brass writing. This work was written for my best friend's recital and had its world premiere in March of 2024 at East Carolina University.

In my heart, I know that my redeemer lives is a setting of the funeral sentence from the Anglican and Episcopal Prayer Books.  The piece is suitable for funerals, but also for the Easter season, any occasions of memorial, or Sundays with readings about eternal life, resurrection, trust in God's goodness, or triumph over persecution.  This motet is scored for a cappella voices, with men and boys choirs in mind, but, of course, usable with any treble choir, or SATTBB ensemble.  The harmonies are lush, and for the most part, the piece is homophonic.  See the SATB version with optional divisi for a simpler arrangement.  Listen to the audio file to get an idea of the pace and sound of the piece.

A vivid and at times raucous celebration of Saturnalia, in Latin, for an ensemble of voices and instruments (including various percussion, woodwind and brass instruments). The sound sample is a sung performance by the composer with an electronic preview of the instruments. Further explanations: Song for Saturnalia - a raucous and fun romp - in whole tones (since there is scant evidence of the types of scales used in those days - whole tones just seem to work in this context). The Latin words make references to relatively modern times but the spirit of Saturnalia is timeless, after all. The pileum (also written pilleum) is the little cap that slave wore during Saturnalia to show they were free men and women on that day - they would point to their cap and say libertus sum (I am a free person) and omnes aequales sumus (we are all equal). The words (and translation - both by me) are as follows: Saturnalia Song Io Saturnalia! Hodie igitur dominus noster non es. The first and second violin parts require chromatic movement in first position and third violin part is in hand shape no. 1 for newer players. Viola part is probably the most difficult which fitted the players it was originally written for. Cello part is straightforward and there are a couple of moments for double bass. Skye Boat Song (Over the Sea to Skye) An intermediate-level woodwind arrangement of this favourite Scottish melody, featuring Horn in E-flat or F.  The tune may be familiar to some as the theme from Outlander. The piece is scored for the following: ·        Part 1: Flute ·        Part 2: Oboe ·        Part 3: Clarinet in B-flat ·        Part 4: Clarinet in B-flat ·        Part 5: Clarinet in B-flat ·        Part 6: Bassoon OR Part 6: Bass Clarinet in B-flat ·        Part 7: Tenor Horn in E-flat (Alto Sax) OR Part 7: Horn in F (Cor Anglais) This arrangement was originally created for a small wind course at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, with 1 – 2 players per part and featuring E-flat horn. There are some alternative options for the feature part – the version in E-flat could instead by played by Alto Saxophone, while there is also a version in F which could be played by French Horn or Cor Anglais. Amazing Grace, a much beloved piece, arranged for flute quartet (S-S-S-A).  I wrote this one to be used at a funeral - but of course it can serve for almost any occasion.  The arrangement is intricately woven, but not overly difficult;  the last verse is in A major, so perhaps a bit of a challenge :)
