The arrangement is tailored for high schools, and community choirs for SATB and Brass Quintet.  The movement exists in its entirety, mirroring the original for SATB and Orchestra. While the brass parts remain in a comfortable range for high school players, the endurance factor will challenge the students since the brass replaces the full orchestra.  Of course, if the choral work is already a part of you library, you may just perform the original with the newly arranged brass parts. An 8.5 x 11 SATB score with piano is provided for rehearsal purposes. It may be duplicated as needed at a considerable cost savings where you to have to purchase the choral arrangement by itself. Many scholarly, and some frankly impenetrable, analyses have been written on the subject of Contrapunctus 7, all available on the internet somewhere (mainly if you can't sleep!). So I would simply say that the motif throughout is stretched, further elongated, scrunched up, placed on different beats, played upsidedown, sideways, shortened, further shortened, over the bar, under the bar, off to the bar(!), and so on, it shouldn't work!! But of course it really does, really! I've known this piece for many years, but it was not until I began unravelling it for this Clarinet version that I must again doff my cap to old J.S. and his enduring genius!

Published by Daniel C. M. (A0.810257). This is a simplified arrangement for harp in the original key of B flat major. It keeps the essentials from the original work. The famous broken chords in the accompaniment are changed from double notes to single notes and the result is a quasi Chopin-like nocturne. Even though this arrangement is a simplification, it requires an advanced technique in the left hand (the bass notes are a little far from those famous broken chords) so this can be taken too as a study for technique, but of course, it is still simple and playable with a little practice.

Set for flute choir by John Gibson (piccolo, flute 1-2-3, alto, bass, contrabass)The Rob Roy Overture for orchestra was composed in 1831 by Hector Berlioz with Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy as inspiration. Scott's book took a rather romantic view of Rob Roy MacGregor as a Scottish Robin Hood character.  Rob Roy was born in 1671 and became a folk hero and the focus of a number of movies.  Berlioz used rollicking Scottish jig figures and many parts of the piece were later re-worked into his Harold in Italy for viola and orchestra.Berlioz's overture set for flute choir requires sufficient forces of players to carry off his intentions, so I suggest this be played by a large flute choir, preferably with at least 3 on a part for the flute, 2 on alto, and 2 on bass, A single piccolo and contrabass flute would be adequate.  Of course, a smaller group could perform this, but a larger one might be more successful.  The piece is about 9 minutes long.

The courage of those fighting men is legendary. I arranged this for my French choir. Based in Normandy, this has special poignance for local people, who owe their freedom to those warriors, and for whom these are their fields, their beaches. Annual commemoration events here in Normandy are extraordinarily moving, and happen in every town down to the smallest village, often attended by families of the men who fought on that day. (We sang it in French, of course - Le Jour le Plus Long - let me know if anyone wants this arrangement with the French words.) If you don't have enough singers to split the parts, sing the upper note.
