Cabbagetown Blues is an original work for 6 Trombones & Rhythm section (Piano/Guitar, Bass & Drums) written by Wesley Hanson. While studying with Emory Remington at the Eastman School, Wes would travel to Toronto to visit the city.  On one visit in the early 70's he heard the famous Boss Brass.  Ian McDougall's brilliant playing made such an impression on Wes that he promised himself he would write a work for him.  While Professor of Trombone at Ball State University, Wes invited Ian to come for a Clinic/Concert and composed this work for him to perform.  This work of about 6 minutes in length is for advanced performers & has improvised solos for 1st & Bass Trombones.  The good old Blues never had it so good!!

Boil' em Cabbage Down is well-known fiddle tune that exists in many different forms and variations. This arrangement utilizes important beginning bow strokes and rhythms while only spanning the notes D, E, F Sharp, and G.  The piano and second viola accompaniment add richness and style to the simplicity of the melody.  The arrangement allows the performers to play three different ways; as a solo with piano, two violas and piano, or as a viola duet without piano.

Included is the piano score and duet part as well as fingering suggestions.

“Sabbatum Sanctum � is the second movement of a composition about the apostle, Maria Magdalena. On the day before Christ’s resurrection, Maria Magdalena is wondering why they have crucified her Lord. Then soon after, the chorus and her ask The Lord to protect and preserve them. The music accompanied only by strings, has chromatic elements that help the story unfold as a lamentation.

Abbandonata sè resta sola is an aria from Solo cantata I Ferma deh, ferma omai, written by the eminent Italian composer Francesco CAVALLI (1602 – 1676). The realization of the aria for voice and piano, made by Sergei Pichugin, is based on the manuscript, including twelve of Cavalli’s cantatas for voice solo. Ferma deh, ferma omai is the only cantata in the collection, composed for alto and basso continuo. The aria may be an invaluable addition to the repertoire of vocal teachers and students.

It is available in the original key of A minor (C4 – C5) for low voice.
