In this collection, I have put together 10 arrangements of wedding processionals and recessionals for piano. They are written at an advanced level and sound rich and full though they are not difficult to play. I’ve also included a bonus hymn, “O Perfect Love,” which can be used before or during the wedding ceremony.

The pieces included are: Prince of Denmark’s March (Clarke), Rondeau (Mouret), Trumpet Tune (Clarke), Prelude from Te Deum (Charpentier), Allegro Vivace from Water Music Suite (Handel), St. Anthony Chorale (Unknown composer), Recessional on “Spring” from The Four Seasons (Vivaldi), Canon in D (Pachelbel), Allegro Maestoso from Water Music Suite (Handel), Recessional on “Ode to Joy” (Beethoven), and “O Perfect Love” (Barnby).

I have also included suggestions on how to adapt them to work for different timing needs. I hope this collection will prove to be very useful for anyone needing piano music for a wedding. (And they can certainly be used for other purposes, too.)

As an experienced classroom music teacher, two of the main difficulties I have faced have been:

* finding suitable arrangements of Western Classical pieces to contribute to a broad and balanced curriculum

The Seasons was commissioned by the South Bend Chamber Singers, Nancy Menk, conductor, and first performed on March 3, 2013 by the South Bend Chamber Singers with the Euclid Quartet in a concert devoted to music about the weather. The texts for this work were selected by the composer, and they represent three different time periods, the 17th, 19th and early 20th centuries, to show that writers have long been fascinated by the seasons and by the distinct weather conditions that each season brings. Although certain types of weather, such as wind or rain, may occur in any of the seasons, the descriptions of weather in these four poems present specific weather conditions which commonly occur in each of the four seasons: a still, hot, sultry day interrupted by the movement of a light breeze from the hills (summer); the cooling morning mists and light frost which signal the coming of winter (autumn); the bitter iciness of fierce winds and frozen air-in this poem, further compared with man's ingratitude (winter); the warm rains and southerly winds that melt the ice and bring about new life (spring).
Throughout this piece various musical devices are employed to underscore or even interpret the words. These devices include text painting, contrapuntal structures (double canon and fugue), and dramatically shifting harmonic colors as each season unfolds. The contrasting performing forces of mixed choir and string quartet are particularly well-suited for presenting, very colorfully, the various musical depictions of the weather conditions and characteristics of each of the seasons. -Frank Ferko

This delightful arrangement of the first movement of The Spring is perfect for any energetic moment, regardless of season.  Its charm comes from its quick tempo and dynamic contrasts, complete with the sounds of the spring season (perhaps add a bird whistle, rainstick, props, poem, or a nature slide show).

The arrangement is for 4, 5, or 6 ringers using two or three octaves of handbells (or handchimes).  Complete assignments and performance notes are enclosed, and the piece is Level 3 when played with six ringers.  This piece may also be performed by four- or six-in-hand ensembles without tables.

The piece is in rondeau form, which means that it has a recurring theme (similar to a refrain) and verses that extremely differ from one another.  Rondeau form is usually explained by letters, where A equals the recurring theme, and each other letter like B or C indicate completely differing verses.  The form then looks like this: ABACADAE etcetera. Because of its consistency, both audience and performers alike will look forward to the next time that the A theme appears.
