×�ַהֲבָה, (Ahava, Hebrew for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Trumpets, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the slow formal dances used in traditional Jewish weddings in Israel and elsewhere. Klezmer music originated in Eastern Europe but has since spread around the world, its bitter sweet melodies and instruments imitating the human voice perfectly reflecting the complex emotion of love.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The melody is always expressive and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. ×�ַהֲבָה has a performance time of around three and a half minutes. Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Mozart's Prelude and Fugue No. 6 from his Six Preludes and Fugues for String Trio, K.404a. This is an original Mozart prelude plus his arrangement of the dramatic and forceful Fugue VIII from Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's Huit Fugues Sans Pédale, F.31 (Wilhelm Friedemann was J.S. Bach's eldest son). Mozart wrote this to play at the Sunday musicales of Baron van Swieten in Vienna, who insisted that all participants play music of Bach or Handel. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has also arranged several other great works for this ensemble. The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.

Jerry Lewis ostensibly forked over $30,000 of his own money to the songwriters to come up with something that woluld be a hit for his movie partner, Dean Martin. That's Amore did the job, becoming Martin's signature song. It first showed up in the 1953 Martin/Lewis comedy The Caddy, for which it received an Oscar nomination for best oriiginal song. (It lost to Doris Day''s Secret Love from Calamity Jane.
It has been covered countless times, by artists from Annette Funicello to the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra.
This version leans on the trumpets for melody, with the others providing the oom-pah-pah and other support. Nothing fancy -- just fun, and a crowd pleaser.
