What Wondrous Love Is This is arranged here for an easy intermediate string trio (two violins and cello). This American Christian hymn is taken from William Walker's Southern Harmony (1835), a shape note hymnal. The lyrics of the hymn were first published in 1811 and the melody is older with sources referring to various origins. Each of the four iterations builds on the melody. The second and third are variations in baroque style. A score and single sheets for each instrument are included. The second violin part is also within easy range of a viola.
This arrangement is appropriate for Lent and Easter holidays, and its modal key and rhythm make it particularly appropriate for a processional or memorial piece.
