Composed by Adolphe-Charles Adam. Arranged by GE Holmes and Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 12 pages. Peet du Toit #5794985. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802568).
O Holy Night (also known as Cantique de Noël) is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem Minuit, chrétiens (Midnight, Christians) by poet Placide Cappeau (1808–1877). The carol reflects on the birth of Jesus as humanity's redemption.
Adam was a prolific French composer of operas and ballets, music critic and noted teacher, who taught Delibes and other influential composers.
Though being arranged for many musical groupings and ensembles, this arrangement by GE Holmes caught my ear and I just had to transcribe it for a brass quintet. It is a novel approach and works well!
