For ambitious trumpeters who want to expand their solo repertoire and technique, this 60-page collection (solo parts only, no keyboard accompaniment), of Three Famous Baroque Works for Two Trumpets by Italian composers Vivaldi, Manfredini and Franceschini who wrote brilliantly exciting music for solo trumpets, provides study and performance editions for the three most frequently performed and recorded trumpet duo works of the Baroque era. Acclaimed pianist and child prodigy, Amy Beach (1867-1944) was one of America's first female composers to have her orchestral compositions published and performed by symphony orchestras in the United States and Europe.  Her compositions also included numerous solo vocal and choral works including this set of Three Shakespeare Choruses scored for the elegant-sounding ensemble of four trombones. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. His numerous choir anthems offer dramatic performance opportunities for church or the concert hall.  His festival anthem SATB choral anthem Lift Up Your Heads is an expressive and dramatic work enhanced with brass quartet accompaniment of two B-flat trumpets and two trombones with alternate F horn and treble clef euphonium parts provided for the trombone parts. The organ/piano part can be used for chorus preparation as well as additional support for performances if desired. However, not using the keyboard part in its entirety for a performance in addition to the brass group will create a more interesting interplay of different timbres. Conductors should ensure accompaniment parts don't overwhelm the chorus especially if the keyboard part is added with the brass. The recording is of the entire edition.

This entertaining and playful cakewalk, forerunner of ragtime style, is by the prominent Canadian-American Black composer Nathaniel Dett who studied with notable teachers such as composer Arthur Foote at Harvard, was the first African-American to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Oberlin Conservatory in composition and piano in 1908 and received an Honorary Masters Degree in 1932 from the Eastman School of Music. Scored for two trumpets in B-flat (with alternate C trumpet parts), horn (with flugelhorn substitute), trombone (with treble clef euphonium substitute) and tuba, the arrangement has wide audience appeal and is very accessible for less experienced players. Set in the original key, it features the first trumpet on piccolo B-flat trumpet with alternative piccolo trumpet parts in A and C, the second trumpet on D trumpet with an alternate part in C., a flugelhorn/trumpet substitute part is included for horn, trombone in bass clef, tuba, and organ. The audio file is an actual brass quintet and organ performance of the entire arrangement and not a computer playback of the score.
