Maneater — Contemporary rock/pop ensemble
By Hall & Oates.Â
Arranged by Dan Ford for contemporary rock/pop ensemble, including parts for rhythm section, voice, tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, and trombone. This arrangement is gig-tested and designed for ease of reading during the heat of a live gig. All parts include chord changes for improvised solos or embellishment of backing parts.
N.B. This is a modular arrangement, with the option for the melody to be sung by a vocalist, or played as an instrumental and led by tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, trombone, or Bb trumpet (reading the tenor saxophone part). If performing this tune as an instrumental, use the “Tenor Saxophone (melody)†part (or the alto saxophone or trombone melody part). If performing as a vocal tune, the horns can use the part called “Tenor Saxophone†(and same for alto/trombone). Those parts contain horn backing parts to support the arrangement.
Maneater was a number one hit and the most successful release by Hall & Oates. It was included on their 1982 album H2O.
This arrangement features a combined Rhythm Section part with clear chord spellings and rhythmic cues for bass guitar, drum kit, guitar, and piano. Additionally, the arranger has included original backing parts for alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and trombone to add depth of textures and dynamics to the arrangement. The horn parts include up to the three voices in harmony allowing a choice of which horn takes the first, second, or third part. The tenor saxophone can be doubled by Bb trumpet, making the appropriate octave transpositions.Â
