Quem Pastores Laudavere is a fourteenth-century carol. The words were subsequently adapted by Michael Praetorius ( 1571 - 1621 ) and then translated into English starting with the well-known first line 'Shepherds sang their praises o'er him'. Here I have arranged it for SATB choir and keyboard accompaniment. Each verse has its own character with verse 3 a cappella and the final verse with descant.

Love Me or Leave Me is a popular song written in 1928 by Walter Donaldson with lyrics by Gus Kahn. The song was introduced in the Broadway musical comedy Whoopee! which opened in December 1928. Ruth Etting's performance of the song was so popular that she was also given the song to sing in the play Simple Simon, which opened in February 1930. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some pretty cool left-hand fills for your listening (playing?) pleasure - we hope you like what we've done to make this beautiful ballad something special!

The Charlie Parker/Dizzy Gillespie bebop classic, Anthropology, is arranged here in a cool style reminiscent of writers such as Dave Pell. Arranged for nonet, but playable without the guitar and/or vibraphone parts, this treatment features a scat-style vocal atop piano, bass, and drums, with innovative backing figures provided by trumpet, alto sax, and trombone. Vocal is in an ideal key for male and/or female.

Anthropology opens with a bass solo over (brush) drums. The first A features a vocal/vibes melody over a highly syncopated stop-time provided by guitar, bass, and drums. Horns enter in gliding unison figures, spreading into harmony, and provide lots of punch and counterpoint as the chart progresses. By way of metric modulation, an Afro-Cuban vamp is an inventive send off for each improvising soloist. The chart concludes with in an across-the-barline rhythmic style style of writing over a satisfying harmonic sequence to wrap it all up.
