It has been a staple of pianists ever since fellow Russian Rachmaninoff set it for piano solo. It was featured in the film Shine about the Australian pianist David Helfgott. The version here features all of Rachmaninoff's five-finger hand-crossing additions, but removes ALL the HUGE spans his own prodigious hands were capable of. Thus, this setting is Ideal for the pianist about to make the leap into advanced and recital-level repertoire, but that might lack the huge hand of many older players. audio clip is at a fairly rapid clip, as befits the title, but can be played slower, by younger or less advanced players.
