Exactly Like You is a popular song with music written by Jimmy McHugh and lyrics by Dorothy Fields and published in 1930. The song was introduced by Harry Richman and Gertrude Lawrence in the 1930 Broadway show Lew Leslie's International Revue which also featured McHugh and Fields's On the Sunny Side of the Street. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We threw in a few left-hand fills for good measure! This arrangement for trombone quintet, with optional rhythm section, has an up-tempo beat.  A solo section with chords and notated solos are included in each of the trombone parts to encourage solos. The first part requires a player with a confident c2, but all the other parts are accessible to good high school players. For variety, an optional rubato intro is suggested, which can be used in place of the up-tempo start. Originally published in 1935, this song was sung in the movie I by Frances Langford. She used this song to great affect while on tour with Bob Hope to entertain the troops in WW II. Many artists have had hits with this song, among them Louis Armstrong, Barbara Streisand, and Rod Stewart. One of the most popular jazz standards ever written, Dorothy Fields providing the lyrics. First sung in the film 'Swing Time' by Fred Astaire to Ginger Rogers but covered by such legends as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet and more recently by Michael Buble and Phil Collins.My version is a Stride Piano version but owes the tempo and the right hand just a little bit to Erroll Garner and I take it through the 2 keys of Eb major and F major.I haven't included fingering, dynamics or pedal markings as I prefer to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist as no two piano teachers would ever agree on such things. Please note this is a piano solo and doesn't include notation for the other instruments that feature on my YouTube video. It was written, however, like all my compositions and arrangements, as a piano solo and sounds perfect as such. The left hand, being stride has a very full sound. Any tenths in the left hand can easily be converted to single notes or octaves for those with smaller hands.I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed arranging it.

The song was written for the musical film, Swing Time, where it was co-introduced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Hollywood. Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald recorded their version of the song in the summer of 1957. In 1963, Fitzgerald included a solo rendition on her Verve Records album, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Jerome Kern Songbook, produced by Norman Granz.
