Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.910433 By Duke Ellington. By Duke Ellington and Irving Mills. Arranged by David Heywood. Jazz. 61 pages. David Heywood #6437245. Published by David Heywood (A0.910433). Looking for something different? How about some thing VERY different? Here is the 1931 Duke Ellington classic It Don't Mean a Thing (if It Ain't Got that Swing) done as a drum feature, with a very modern harmonic approach and aggressive melodic ideas. This fast swinging chart starts with energetic solo drum time, then the entire flute ensemble trades eights (as a soli based on motives from the melody) with the drums for two choruses before a brief statement of the melody. This is followed by open solos over the original changes, and an open drum solo. The chart then transitions to a half-time swing free-for-all with fragments of the melody flying in all directions, capped of by a brief return of the opening section. Not for the faint of heart, and definitely not the same old jazz flute choir experience! Scored for piccolo, five C flutes, alto and bass flutes, piano, bass, and drums, with optional guitar.

Arranged by Benjamin Karaca. Funk,Jazz,Pop,R & B,Soul. 34 pages. Benjamin Karaca #890245. Published by Benjamin Karaca (A0.1300512). Stevie Wonder wrote Sir Duke as a tribute to Duke Ellington, the jazz composer, bandleader, and pianist. The song is part of Stevie Wonders 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life. Sir Duke is all about celebrating the joy of music. My arrangement works very well in both SAATB and SATTB lineups. Since the third voice plays solo most of the time, it's mainly a matter of personal preference and individual capabilities to determine which lineup sounds better for you. My arrangement closely follows the original. In particular, the bass and drum parts are quite faithful transcriptions. The general structure and key remain unchanged as well.Saxophone Quintet SATTB (SAATB) with Bass and Drum Set. Duration: 3:50 min. Joseph Hasper #2059795. Published by Joseph Hasper (A0.734676). Jazz combo arrangement for Trumpet, Alto Sax, Trombone and Rhythm Section (Guitar, Piano, Bass, and Drums). It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) is a 1931 Duke Ellington composition now accepted as a jazz standard. The music was written and arranged by Ellington in August 1931 during intermissions at Chicago's Lincoln Tavern and was first recorded by Ellington and his orchestra on February 2, 1932. The song became famous, Ellington wrote, as the expression of a sentiment which prevailed among jazz musicians at the time. Probably the first song to use the phrase swing in the title, it introduced the term into everyday language and presaged the swing era by three years. The Ellington band played the song continually over the years and recorded it numerous times, most often with trumpeter Ray Nance as vocalist.
