Composed by Alan Edgar. 20th Century,Children. Score and parts. 25 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #3054461. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.903755).

Third of a set of musical tellings of sayings and proverbs from around the world.  Good for a children's concert. This very short piece opens by depicting the open savanna and the roar of Lion.  A fanfare welcomes him, then we hear his confident march and another roar.  However, he is plagued by many fleas, who perform a jazz waltz between bites and jumps. At the end, helpless Lion staggers away, cheeky fleas still biting. First performance was by York Guildhall Orchestra under Simon Wright.

The children in the audience could be invited to state the moral of this Kenyan saying:

A flea can trouble a lion more than the lion can harm a flea.

The movement uses flute doubling on referee's whistle,  piccolo, 2 oboes (one doubling on swanee whistle), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, untuned percussion, harp and strings.

Duration:  2minutes.

By Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. By Julius Wechter. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Multicultural,World. 6 pages. Peet du Toit #975691. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1392201).

Spanish Flea is a popular song written by Julius Wechter in the 1960s with lyrics by his wife Cissy Wechter. The original version was recorded by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Cover versions of the song have been recorded by dozens of artists worldwide.

Julius Wechter was a percussionist in Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, most notably on marimba. Spanish Flea was one of several songs he wrote for the group. It was released as an instrumental on the B-side to the single What Now My Love from their 1965 album Going Places. The album was a No. 1 hit in the U.S., and the single peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. Spanish Flea featured Alpert's trumpet over a Latin rhythm backing.

The original version was recorded on August 13, 1965 at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Two other songs were recorded during that session, those being And I Love Her and More And More Amor. In the United States, the song is closely associated with the long-running game show The Dating Game, for which it was played when the bachelor entered into the stage to ask questions to learn and choose which bachelorette had best suited the needs of that bachelor.

By Louise du Toit. By Louise du Toit. Arranged by Louise du Toit. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Louise du Toit #738729. Published by Louise du Toit (A0.1138395).

Izeze the Flea is the third in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled 15 Animal Compositions for Piano and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: Izeze the flea is desperate. He is trying to stick to one strand of hair, but wherever he goes, he is undoubtedly very unwelcome. Running frantically from one spot to another in an attempt to avoid continuous attacks from hairbrushes and anti-flea powders, he jumps up and down, left and right, to and fro, twirling and spinning like a whirlwind on top of the head he inhabits. When he finally succeeds in escaping the invasion of his privacy, he throws himself onto a thick, healthy hair strand, clinging to it with all his might and vowing never to let go of his newfound home..

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by César Madeira. Children,Film/TV,Folk,Instructional,Traditional. Score. 3 pages. Sheet Music To Play Editions #778079. Published by Sheet Music To Play Editions (A0.1178115).

Flea Waltz (Der Flohwalzer) for Beginner Piano in G major. Full Score with Fingering and Chords. Enjoy it!

Despite its name, the piece is not a waltz in triple meter, as it has a time signature in duple meter. The composer is unknown. A parody of musicology writing by Eric Baumann attributes the piece to Ferdinand Loh, but this is obviously a joke (F. Loh = Floh, flea in German). The piece is notated in the key of G-flat major, because most of its notes are played on black keys in those keys, makes the fingering easier.
