Brad Powell is a talented and highly trained California guitarist and composer who calls himself The Candlelight Guitarist, and for good reason. His music is perfect for situations in which candlelight figures prominently. Composed by Randy Brooks. Arranged by Michael Thomas Coull. 20th Century,Christmas,Comedy,Country,Holiday. Score. 12 pages. MTC Publishing #860686. Published by MTC Publishing (A0.1268127).

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer - Arrangement for Voice, Piano and Guitar by Michael Thomas Coull

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer is a novelty holiday song.  Written by Randy Brooks, the song was originally performed by Elmo & Patsy, the husband-and-wife duo of Elmo Shropshire and Patsy Trigg in 1979.

The lyrics tell the story of a grandmother celebrating at a Christmas Eve party with her family when, while drunk on eggnog and off her medication, she staggers out into a snowstorm despite everyone imploring her not to.  She is found the next day, trampled; Santa and his reindeer are determined to be the culprits when 'incriminating Claus marks' are found on Grandma's back.

Grandpa seems completely unfazed by his wife's demise and spends the holiday 'watching football, drinking beer and playing cards with cousin Mel', while the rest of the family mourns Grandma's death and wonders if the gifts they bought for her should be returned.  Christmas dinner otherwise goes on as normal, with a centrepiece of roast goose, figgy pudding for dessert, and 'blue and silver candles' to match Grandma’s hairpiece.

The upshot is a warning to the listeners that Santa is unfit to carry a driver's license!

This arrangment of Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer is for solo voice, piano and guitar, but also contains harmonized sections (backing 'oohs', and the final few bars) that also enable this arrangment to be performed by an SSA choir - with the majority of it sung in unison.  However it is performed, it is a great choice for a fun, novelty song for Christmas.

Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score and part. 28 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3133717. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522193).

My Saxophone and Me consists of fourteen short and delightful pieces written especially for absolute beginners up to students at elementary level. The book comes in two versions, one for B flat saxophones and the other for E flat instruments. However, for obvious reasons you cannot mix B flat and E flat instruments in the same group.

The pieces are intended as supplementary material to your usual tutor books. The music can be used with any number of players and the pieces remain in the lower register. Several early pieces use only the notes B, A and G and the key of G major predominates. Six of the pieces use only half notes (minims) and quarter notes (crotchets). The low C, a tricky note for some beginners, has been avoided almost completely. On the one occasion it appears, the note C an octave above is given as optional. Although the pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty you can play them in any order you want, depending on the musical needs of the student. Your students are sure to enjoy these pieces, which are both easy on the fingers and easy on the ear!

Several pieces have a few measures (bars) rest in the middle not only to give the player a break and add musical contrast but also to give the experience of counting empty bars during the music. When space allows, piano cues appear in the solo part. Some of the later pieces in the book have good performing potential and could be strung together in any order to create a small suite.

Every piece has a short piano introduction so that the student can sense the tempo and musical style before playing. The keyboard accompaniments have been kept as simple as possible with the minimum number of notes. Dynamic markings (e.g. piano and mezzo-forte) are used from the start, but phrasing has been omitted from the solo part. This is because the teacher is usually in the best position to suggest phrasing within the physical capabilities of each student. Slurs have been employed sparingly and only when necessary.

An MP3 file of all the piano accompaniments is also available as a separate item. You can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20679835

The book includes a well-known folk lullaby from Wales and a lively folk song from Thailand which is known by all Thai people because it’s taught in elementary schools throughout the country.

The music has been converted into pdf files at 1,200 dpi which will produce professional looking printed copies of high quality. However, the output quality will also depend on your own printer settings and capabilities. The publication consists of a teacher's book (18 pages) and a student's book (8 pages) both contained in the same pdf file. The sample MP3 (click on the “Listen†button above) contains recordings of Starting Tune (No 1); Island Song (No 3); Waltzing Around (No 7); Just a Minuet (No 11) and Donkey Trot (No 12).

The Home Coming March (1908) - Concert Band Score and Parts PDF

Music by: ET Paull

Of course, eventually, all the soldiers and sailors had to eventually come home from all the battles and Paull had that eventuality well covered also. The artwork on the front cover (of unknown origin) is one that is full of imagery that covers all aspects of the services, Army and Navy and is full of patriotic and familial ideals. The border lists all of the US States and the corner pictures depict aspects of homecoming. The main image is a parade of victory. Let's let Paull explain it all to us as he did on the inside cover.

Why This Piece Of Music Was Named
The Home Coming March

  Explanatory

When the author had about completed the music of the present march, it occurred to him that it might be well to have suggestions made from a number of people, recommending a good name for same, for after all there is considerable in a name. He, therefore, had a special advertisement placed in several of the leading music Journals throughout the country, offering a prize of $10.00 in gold to anyone suggesting a name that would be accepted. Over three thousand names were sent in from all parts of the country, even from far away New Zealand and Australia, in which countries the author's marches are universal favorites. Included in the letters received was one from Mr. W. C. Bates, Secretary of the Sheffield Advertising Agency of New York and Chicago, in which he suggested the name The Home Coming March. After due consideration, this name was accepted, and the prize was awarded and paid to Mr. Bates, who stated that he was prompted to recommend this name on account of having been present during the impressive celebration of Old Home Week in Boston, Mass., last year. Probably no one idea is so universally dominant in the mind of the Human Race as that of home, or matters pertaining to home. The author believes that the name selected is one that will appeal to everyone; as the many pleasant associations with the words Home Coming are almost without limit. The title page of this march is without any exception the handsomest seen on a piece of music. The main body of the title pace represents a street scene, with buildings decorated and shows a handsome royal Arch of Welcome in the foreground, gaily decorated with flags, emblems, and bunting. A band is shown passing under the arch, leading a procession of the Home Guard, and thousands of people waving handkerchiefs, banners, flags, etc. Four smaller scenes also appear on the page, one representing the Home Coming of the soldier from war; another scene shows the Home Coming of the sailor boys embarking from their battleships; another scene represents the Home Coming reunion of the family and loved ones; the fourth scene represents the Home Coming of the father from work, where a little tot has been watching and waiting, and runs to meet him. The whole design of the title page is then surrounded by a border of differently designed medallions, on which appears the names of all the States of the Union, making without a doubt, the most unique and attractive title page ever conceived for a piece of music.

One thing Paull mastered early in his career was the art of overstatement! Musically, this march is beginning to show the repetitiveness of many of Paull's works, especially evident as time passed. Once Paull found the formula (a fabulous cover and a playable, rousing march) that sold music, he stuck with it and was quite successful as a result.

This arrangement is for Full Concert Band with the original optional piano part ( Not on the score).  There are parts for Trombones 1 and 2 in TC and BC as well as parts of Euphonium in TC and BC.  The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.

Composed by Thomas Shacklady. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Multicultural,Patriotic,Praise & Worship,Traditional,World. 42 pages. Keith Terrett #898806. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1309638).

An arrangement made especially for the Band of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary of ''O Arise, All You Sons''., one og PNG's two professional military bands, the other belongs to the PNG Defence Force both based in Port Morsebly the nations captital.

O Arise, All You Sons is the national anthem of Papua New Guinea. Adopted in 1975, it was written and composed by Thomas Shacklady, a former Royal Marine who took over the band from Inspector David Crawley. I took over the band from 1994-99, after taking the band on two overseas tours to Adelaide in 1996 & Kobe in 1999.

The National Identity Act of Papua New Guinea was formulated in 1971, motivating the country to create a national flag, a national emblem, a national pledge and a national anthem. A national flag and emblem were adopted in 1971. However, the national anthem remained undecided until independence from Australia in 1975, four years later. Although many songs were submitted to be the anthem, the National Executive Council decided a week before the country's Independence Day (10 September 1975), to adopt as the national anthem a composition that was composed by Chief Inspector Thomas Shacklady (1917–2006), a bandmaster of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Band.

During the 2015 Pacific Games opening ceremony, the anthem was sung with the first line altered from O arise all you sons of this land to O arise sons and daughters of this land. An official later stated that this was illegal and a violation of the National Identity Act.

This is the BASS PART (in standard notation) of the GUITAR and BASS DUET recording of Cool Cowboy Glen (tribute to Glen Campbell).  This guitar and bass duet features advanced-intermediate fingerstyle guitar playing, combining country, folk, popular, classical and Spanish styles. The GUITAR PART is available separately, in standard notation, and also in TABS-plus-standard notation.
