Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1311113 Composed by George J. Elvey, 1859. Arranged by David Evan Thomas. Classical,Holiday,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 4 pages. Davidevanthomas.com #900085. Published by davidevanthomas.com (A0.1311113). Set to Henry Alford's words, Come, Ye Thankful People, Come is one of the most popular hymns for Thanksgiving. This setting treats the tune as a chorale prelude for piano (or organ), with the tune in the soprano. Hymnary.org tells us that English organist George Job Elvey (1816-1893 ), the composer of the tune, ST. GEORGE'S WINDSOR, was educated at Oxford and at the Royal Academy of Music. At age nineteen Elvey became organist and master of the boys' choir at St. George Chapel, Windsor, where he remained until his retirement in 1882. He was knighted after he provided music for Princess Louise's wedding in 1871.

Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.808697 Composed by George Job Elvey. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Christmas,Holiday. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #4999815. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808697).     Henry Alford (1810–1871), Church of England cleric and man of many talents, wrote the words for Come, Ye Thankful People, Come in 1844. Fourteen years later, Alford’s hymn was set to a melody composed by George J. Elvey (1816–1893). Elvey had named the tune St. George’s, Windsor after the chapel in Windsor, England, where he was organist. The first verse of the hymn rejoices in the harvest and calls for celebrants to Come to God's own temple, come; raise the song of harvest home! As such, the hymn gained popularity in the United States as a celebration of Thanksgiving.    In keeping with the song’s celebratory and triumphal nature, this arrangement uses a fanfare as the recurring motif. The fanfare opens the piece, followed by a rejoicing, exultant first statement of the melody. In the second statement, the fanfare figure returns and forms the structure for the section. The third statement is styled as a kind of rondo; the fourth and last, grandioso. The fourth statement also changes key twice--F to B-flat, then to E-flat--includes a walking bass part and ends with, again, the fanfare. The piece should be played Allegro moderato, about 120 bpm, and there are no really tricky rhythmic figures. Most notes are well within the normal range of the five instruments-Trombone’s highest are a couple of high F notes; Trumpet 1, high A notes. So most players will have little or no trouble.     This arrangement was completed in 2019, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 44 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. Choral Choir (Unison) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.922833 Composed by George Job Elvey. Arranged by Jayne Nitz. Children,Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 5 pages. Jayne Nitz #6333885. Published by Jayne Nitz (A0.922833). Inspired by my childhood memories of singing some obscure hymn lyrics, (What exactly are fetters?) I’ve rewritten several hymns with kid-friendly lyrics and fun piano accompaniments. This arrangement of the hymn text Songs of Thankfulness and Praise speaks about Jesus being both fully human and fully God. As a kid, I did not understand God in man made manifest, and I hope my lyrics (below) are helpful for children. Includes reproducible lyric and lead sheets.Hymn tune: ST. GEORGE’S, WINDSOR

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465870 Composed by James F. Linzey and George Elvey. Chamber,Classical,Patriotic,Religious,Sacred. 4 pages. Military Bible Association #1044467. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465870). History of the United States Coast Guard and the Coast Guard HymnIn 1915 the United States Congress formed the United States Coast Guard (USCG) when it combined the Revenue Cutter Service with the Life-Saving Service.  The Coast Guard became the sole maritime arm of the United States Armed Forces with the purpose of saving people in danger at sea and enforcing America’s maritime laws. In 1939, the Coast Guard assumed responsibility for the Lighthouse Service and maintenance of aids to maritime navigation. In 1946 the Coast Guard assumed oversight of the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation, including merchant marine licensing and merchant vessel safety. And in 1967, the Coast Guard assumed the administration of bridges over navigable waterways. The Coast Guard serves under the Department of Homeland Security in peacetime, but under the Department of the Navy in war. Missions include protecting the environment, and securing the nation by enforcing Federal laws on the high seas, on the nation's coastal waters, and in the nation’s inland waterways.  At one time, under its former name, the Coast Guard was the only Unted States Armed Force at sea. On August 4, 1790, President George Washington signed the Tariff Act, providing funds to finance the construction of ten ships to enforce Federal tariff and trade laws. Throughout much of its history, the Coast Guard used verse one of the Navy Hymn in its chapel services, because it did not have its own hymn. So, on June 18, 2024, hymn writer James F. Linzey, who dubbed the Coast Guard as the “Ruler of Land and Sea,” since it patrolled the shores and the seas, felt inspired to write the United States Coast Guard hymn. He felt that a score that matched the majesty of the Navy Hymn would be appropriate. Therefore, he chose “Diademata” by Elvey. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.
