Pulanglah Ke Sisiku which means return to my side in Malay, is a song composed as part of a university musical play entitled Heaven Here on Earth. This duet, sung at the climax of the performance, features the male protagonist serenading his beloved in an effort to coax her to return to his side following a series of misunderstandings.
Written in the style of 1960's Malaysian pop music with a hint of contemporary flavour, Pulanglah Ke Sisiku adopts a Latin beat and modulates between major and minor keys to accentuate the dynamic emotions of the scene. Musical motives from Heaven Here On Earth, the romantic ballad of the play (sheet music also available on SMP), are interspersed throughout the song to foreshadow the finale.
This is the only song in the play with lyrics in Malay and serves as a tribute to the late P. Ramlee, whose musical ingenuity set the tone for Malaysia in the 1960's.
