Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1016491 Composed by Ira Newborn. Arranged by Gary Claunch. Contemporary. 35 pages. Gary Claunch #5777983. Published by Gary Claunch (A0.1016491). This is an arrangement of the stage band version of the theme to the movie Naked Gun by Ira Newborn.  This was a large stage band with lots of brass, saxophones, bass, piano and drums.  But with this thick arrangement heavy on brass, the great walking bass line is lost.  The bassoon is perfect for a walking bass, so I featured this part all the way through, with the rest of the stage band reduced for the other four bassoons.  If you are a bassoon player that never got to play jazz, this is your opportunity.  Listen to the mp3 file.  I'll also include the link to the stage band version.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1125807 By Michael Swedberg. By John Henry Hopkins Jr. Arranged by Terrence Niska. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday. Score. 8 pages. Niska Music Publishing #726547. Published by Niska Music Publishing (A0.1125807). The travels of the three wise men as they followed a star to see the newborn King was the inspiration for this arrangement. It starts with the right hand representing the twinkling of the stars in the vastness of the heavens, while the left hand provides the feeling of winds blowing across the desert sands as the magi set out on their journey. Soon the melody is heard in the right hand, though in a more stately rhythm than the traditional, more pastoral original. The left hand continues its sweeping motion unabated and drives the piece ever onward as the wise men draw ever nearer to their destination. The minor mood of the song is replaced in the chorus as the star of wonder shines down upon them, filling their souls with hope. Eventually they arrive at the stable and offer their gifts to the babe lying in a manger: gold, frankincense and myrrh. It is the last of these gifts which foreshadow the death of Christ and his burial in the stone-cold tomb. After they have spent some time praising their new-found king, the three wise men return to their homeland as the music follows them back across the desert sands to their homes in the East.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1410772 By Justin K. Reeve. By Justin K. Reeve. Arranged by Justin K. Reeve. Christmas,Holiday,New Age,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Justin Kenlon Reeve #993168. Published by Justin Kenlon Reeve (A0.1410772). Crafted in 1857 by John Henry Hopkins, Jr., “We Three Kings” stands as a perennial ode to the Nativity story, drawing inspiration from the biblical account in Matthew 2, where visitors from the East present gifts to the newborn Jesus. While the Bible does not specify their number or title them as “kings,” Hopkins introduced the imaginative trio — Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar — in his carol, each carrying symbolic gifts that have woven themselves into the fabric of Christmas lore. The first of these gifts, gold, serves as a regal tribute, symbolizing Jesus as a king and emphasizing his divine authority. It’s a nod to the recognition of his elevated status. Frankincense, the second offering, not only possesses aromatic allure but also holds spiritual significance. In the biblical context, its smoke was thought to carry prayers heavenward, making it a fitting symbol for acknowledging Jesus’ divine nature and spiritual importance. The third and perhaps most poignant gift is myrrh, an aromatic resin associated with burial rituals. This gift, laden with symbolism, foreshadows Jesus’ sacrificial journey and eventual crucifixion. Myrrh becomes a poignant acknowledgment of the mortality inherent in Jesus’ earthly existence, tying together the joy of his birth with the somber events that would unfold in his life. The enduring appeal of “We Three Kings” lies not only in its musical composition but also in its ability to distill profound theological themes into a simple and evocative narrative. The carol has become a cherished part of Christmas traditions, resonating through generations as it invites listeners to reflect on the profound meanings woven into the fabric of the Nativity narrative.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1298965 Composed by Ian Calvert. 21st Century,A Cappella,Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday. 6 pages. Ian Calvert #888815. Published by Ian Calvert (A0.1298965). This is the first publication of a new Christmas song, set for SATB a cappella and ideal for community or professional choirs. The words are those of a poem by Leonard Clark (1905 – 1981). He was an English poet who was raised in The Forest of Dean, in the west of England. The Forest became his great passion and inspiration; much of his poetry reflects that upbringing and often relates to nature. In 1972 he published a slim little book of Christmas poems, of which ‘The Birth’ is one. What I like about this poem is its simplicity and clarity – and its narrative development through the verses. It starts with the poet waking in the pre-dawn. He then realizes that it is Christmas Day and in the stillness of that time his mind turns to the birth of Jesus, as traditionally told; tenors and basses start this verse. Then he steps out of time and space and looks through his bedroom window to contemplate the mystery of incarnation; sopranos and altos begin this third verse. And he finishes at the stable, offering devotion to the newborn Lord. This song is also available in a version for voice and piano. Drawn from the same book of poems there is available another new Christmas song, called Singing in the Streets; that one is set for baritone and piano. Ian Calvert.
