Composed by James Shubert. Arranged by Jim Shubert. Christmas,Comedy,Contemporary. 4 pages. James W. Shubert #1076400. Published by James W. Shubert (A0.1500319).

2 part choir (treble/bass clef voices) with piano accompaniment.  Easy Intermediate Level.  This is the sad story of the fourth wise man, Sam, who along with Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, followed the star to find the baby Jesus and give Him gifts.  Unfortunately for Sam, the documents that point to his participation were only recently discovered and he has been left out of the canon of christmas music... until now.

If you were to purchase this music, please do not plan on using it during a service.  I would never use this during a service, but plan on having my choir perform it during the 30 minute Carol Sing they do prior to the Christmas Eve service.

Arranged with a range-challenged choir in mind.

By Europe. By Joey Tempest. Arranged by Jim Lansing. Film/TV,Instructional,Pop,Rock. Score. 3 pages. Jim Lansing #6666823. Published by Jim Lansing (A0.896112).

Early Intermediate level arrangement of 1986 Europe power ballad transposed to G/Em for less black keys.  Syncopation and 16th notes have been simplified for easier reading; once notes are learned, encourage player to fix the rhythms to match the artist's recording.

LH plays in G & Am positions.  Movement accomplished by reaching interval 6th and finger substitution on repeated notes. RH plays in C, D & Em positions.  While most of the melody is in stepwise movement, there are numerous leaps of 6th and an octave.

By Harry Styles. By Harry Styles and Thomas Hull. Arranged by Jim Lansing. Instructional,Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 3 pages. Jim Lansing #6853871. Published by Jim Lansing (A0.896124).

Early Intermediate level arrangement of Harry Styles' ballad Sweet Creature transposed to C to keep RH on the staff.  Syncopated rhythms simplified for easier reading; once notes are learned, encourage student to use their ear to fix the rhythm to match the artist's recording.

The challenge in this song is hand movement and some stepwise, parallel motion.  RH covers middle C to treble C with some scalic runs, quick finger substitutions on repeated notes, and 2 finger crossing over 1.  LH also has 2 crossing over 1 and an octave leap.

By Ajr With Hayley Kiyoko & Ahhhaa. By Adam Metzger, Hayley Alcroft, Jack Metzger, and Ryan Metzger. Arranged by Jim Lansing. Instructional,Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 3 pages. Jim Lansing #6572641. Published by Jim Lansing (A0.896103).

Early Intermediate level piano arrangement of 2020 AJR hit transposed to Dm for less black keys.  Syncopation smoothed out for easier reading; once notes are learned, encourage player to use their ear to fix the rhythms to match the artist's recordings.  Numerous off-beat melody entrances are helped by LH playing on the preceding beat to keep sense of rhythmic pulse.

LH plays lots of 5ths: D-A, Bb-F, C-G.  RH is mostly in Dm and F positions.  RH will reach to interval of 6th and move mostly on rests.  Both hands will play stepwise in parallel motion for 3 beats (the Bang! Bang! Bang! cadence) at the end of each 8 mm phrase.

Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 157 pages. Sy Brandon #6067165. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755297).

This four-movement composition contains musical interpretations of four of Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico paintings. The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter.

I. From the Faraway Nearby

The highly charged contrast of closely viewed foreground details and hugely distant horizons, which typified the New Mexican Views of O'Keeffe, was not a mere optical illusion. The large scale, bright light, and clear air of the region permitted one to see for the proverbial forever, and the juxtaposition of faraway and nearby was an integral aspect of desert vision. Soft dynamics and orchestration represent the faraway while the loud dynamics and orchestration represent the nearby. Near the end, the faraway and nearby begin to merge.

II. Jimson Weed, White Flower No. 1

This painting depicts one of O'Keeffe's favorite subjects: a magnified flower. To her, the delicate blooms stood as some of the most overlooked pieces of naturally occurring beauty, objects that the bustling contemporary world ignored. So she made it her mission to highlight their complex structures, explaining: When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not. This movement is slow and lyrical reflecting the beauty of the close-up image.

III. Red Hills and Bone

O'Keeffe 's most effective composition of bones in the landscape appeared in 1941, with Red Hills and Bone; the large canvas is also among her most ambitions evocations of the arid country of which she was by then an owner, having purchase the house at Ghost Ranch the preceding year. In 1939, O'Keeffe had written of the bones as strangely more living than the animals walking around, and in the 1941 painting her response is given visual from. The minimalistic noodling represents the red hills and the bold triplets represent the mystique of the bone.

IV. Ladder to the Moon

This painting shows a handmade wooden ladder suspended in the turquoise sky. In the background are the pitch-black Pedernal Mountains and a pearl colored half moon. This painting was very similar to a picture taken of O'Keeffe and her surroundings at Ghost Ranch. In the picture, a large wooden ladder is leaned against an outer wall of a patio from where it rises up into the sky with the Pedernal Mountains in the background. In Pueblo culture the ladder is used to symbolize the link between the Pueblos and cosmic forces. The fact that the ladder is pointed up in the sky may represent the link between nature and the cosmos.

While there are motifs that depict specifics of the painting, such as the scale-wise ascending and descending figure for the crescent mood and rising arpeggios for the ladder, the focus of this movement is the spiritual element. The music rises and grows in intensity from a ground bass-like theme to a soaring ending.

The Old Rugged Cross
has been a country gospel favorite ever since it became the title song of Ernest Tubb's 1952 gospel album; it has been performed by some of the twentieth century's most important recording artists, including Andy Griffith, Anne Murray, Brad Paisley, Chet Atkins, John Berry, Floyd Cramer, George Jones, Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, Loretta Lynn, Ray Price, Ricky Van Shelton, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. The Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, George Beverly Shea and John Prine on the 2007 CD Standard Songs for Average People with Mac Wiseman. Composed by Paul Williams. Arranged by Kevin Riley. Christmas. 49 pages. Kevin Riley #1072342. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1495812).

The Muppet Christmas Carol is a 1992 American Christmas musical film directed by Brian Henson (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Jerry Juhl. It is the fourth theatrical film featuring the Muppets. Adapted from the 1843 novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the film stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, alongside Muppet performers Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Frank Oz. Although artistic license is taken to suit the aesthetic of the Muppets, The Muppet Christmas Carol otherwise follows Dickens's original story closely. It is the first Muppet film to be produced following the deaths of Muppets creator Jim Henson and performer Richard Hunt; the film is dedicated to both.

The film was released in the United States on December 11, 1992, by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution under its Walt Disney Pictures label. It was a modest box office success and received generally favorable reviews. It is the first Muppets film to be produced by Walt Disney Pictures, whose parent company would later acquire the rights to the Muppets characters and assets in 2004.

I make piano solo arrangements for my students of songs that they love! My goal is to create something that sounds beautiful as a standalone piece of music, and most importantly, that it actually makes pianistic sense. Sometimes I may hide exercises in the arrangements that I want a student to work on. All of my arrangements are usually made for a specific student, so results will vary.

Some fingering is included to guide you along. The song as a whole has been condensed to the main parts. As a general rule, I often shorten vocal melodies and remove excessive syllable notes (lyrics). Solo performances will sound much nicer this way. I also condense melodies for simpler timings.

This arrangement was made for an early intermediate student who had just completed learning Fur Elise. I kept some of those elements in mind and risked throwing in some octaves for additional practice. I did keep all the exciting sections, otherwise it would be no fun. The song stands on its own and sounds absolutely beautiful. It has a big sound that won't take a student months to get through. Plenty of patterns they can grasp and re-use. Great for practicing arpeggios too!

By Randy Travis. By Roger Miller. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Contemporary. 27 pages. Keith Terrett #6426723. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.747086).

An arrangement of the classic King of the Road for Wind Dectet.

King of the Road is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a man of means by no means), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the king of the road. It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records.

The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. Miller recalled that the song was inspired when he was driving and saw a sign on the side of a barn that read, Trailers for sale or rent. This would become the opening line of the song.

The song has been covered by many other artists, including George Jones, Dean Martin, Val Doonican, Jack Jones, James Booker, The Fabulous Echoes, Boney M., R.E.M., Johnny Paycheck, Glen Campbell, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Boxcar Willie, Randy Travis, Rangers, James Kilbane, John Stevens, the Statler Brothers, Rufus Wainwright & Teddy Thompson, Giant Sand, Peligro, John Williamson (singer) & Adam Harvey, The Proclaimers, Ray Conniff Singers, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim White. James The King Brown (an Elvis impersonator) performed the song for a 2001 Audi commercial on German TV. Of R.E.M.'s version, a shambolic, drunken, offhand rendering, guitarist Peter Buck would later comment, If there was any justice in the world, Roger Miller should be able to sue for what we did to this song.

King of the Road was performed live by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton during Miller's posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 1995 CMA Awards ceremony.

The song appears in Wim Wenders's 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit (In the Course of Time; English title Kings of the Road). It is also played at the beginning of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky BobbyBrokeback MountainInto the Wild (2007), Traveller (1997), and Swingers (1996). Miller performs it in the concert film The Big T.N.T. Show. The Proclaimers' version is included in the film The Crossing (1990). Near the end of their official music video, the pair are shown reading a newspaper whose headline is Roger Miller, King of Plugs.

Miller's recording appears in an episode of the Super Dave TV show, where Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) sings along while sitting at a piano mounted on top of his tour bus. The bus eventually goes into a low tunnel, slamming into the piano and Osborne and pushing them off the bus and onto the ground.

A send-up version by English entertainer Billy Howard was a British chart hit in 1976.

A German take by the band Wise Guys exists, the parody referring to speeding on the Autobahn.
