This charming short Baroque piece for flute and harpsichord is by the English composer Richard Jones (1680 - 1744) (known as Dicky). It's adapted from his Suite in A minor for harpsichord, which has 6 short movements. This is the last movement. My grateful thanks to Andrew Edwards from the Facebook Flute Forum who identified the original source of this piece.

This lovely melody was originally attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, because he included it in his Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach - a collection of keyboard pieces for his wife. Later, it was identified as an aria from Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel's opera Diomedes, which was first staged on 16 November 1718. Arranged by Jon Raybould. For a live performance, there are 2 piano parts - the chord accompaniment, plus an optional right-hand piano part (primo), to be played by a
second player, as a piano duet. This adds the counter-melodies and extra harmonic interest. Where only one piano player is available, they should play the right-hand melody plus the left-hand piano part for the opening piano solo.

The string part may be played by violins, strings or a keyboard set to a strings sound.

The backing track is not intended to be a sound-alike version of the original - it's a little faster and features a lively drum track throughout. It was arranged originally by Jon Raybould to provide a lively piece for his flute pupils to play in their flute lessons.

The original song was composed by Richard Carpenter and features the incredible voice of his sister Karen Carpenter.

The Wellerman Song (a Sea Shanty) was made famous recently on TokTok and YouTube, sung by Nathan Evans. This arrangement is 2 flutes and piano (or backing track). The arranger has strayed away from the original purpose of the song, which is a Sea Shanty, intended to be performed a capella by sailors on ships. This is a fairly slow, reflective piece which starts quite simply and after a key-change, the melody is given more variety and increases in complexity, before a reflectively calm ending. It was composed in the height of the 2020 Covid-19 world pandemic and the title reflects the sentiment that One Day Soon (maybe) ... the world will kick coronavirus and we'll all be able to meet and play music in groups again. This is a calm, meditative piece for 2 flutes and piano. It was originally composed for myself, a flute teacher, to play along with my pupils. So, the Flute 1 part is marked for pupils, and is therefore quite easy throughout. However, the download also includes a second set of flute parts, which features the same music - however, the musical phrases have been distributed across both flutes 1 and 2 - which is great when the two flutes are of approximately the same ability (it gives a more satisfying performance experience for both flutists). The piece has a hint of Pachelbel's Canon in that it features a simple melody over a repeated chord sequence.
