Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.856210

By Meat Loaf. By Jim Steinman. Arranged by Liz Garnett. A Cappella,Rock. Octavo. 14 pages. Liz Garnett #4313721. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856210).

This is an extended drama in rock 'n' roll. Meatloaf's story tells of young love, young lust, hasty decisions and adult regret in a multi-sectioned song that verges on the operatic in its narrative urgency and expressive range.

The arrangement features a female soloist, and an optional spoken narrative section in the middle. It is shorter than Meatloaf's version, but still a full five minutes in length. It was originally commissioned along with my other two Meatloaf arrangements, but the three together are just two expressively huge to work as an a cappella show set. This one would work as a strong statement-piece, either as a closer, or the penultimate number followed by something shorter and lighter.

Vocal Ranges:

Tenor: B flat 3 - C5
Lead: D3 - G4
Bari: B flat 2 - G4
Bass: G2 - A flat 3
Solo: G3 - B flat 4

By Meat Loaf. By Jim Steinman. Arranged by Michael Thomas Coull. 20th Century,Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Standards. 18 pages. MTC Publishing #859760. Published by MTC Publishing (A0.1267125).

You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth - Choral Arrangement for SATB and Piano by Michael Thomas Coull.

You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (also known as You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)) is the first solo single by the American singer Meat Loaf, released in 1977.  It is a track from his album Bat Out of Hell, written by Jim Steinman.

According to his autobiography, Meat Loaf asked Jim Steinman to write a song that was not 15 or 20 minutes long, and, in Meat Loaf’s words, a ‘pop song’.  His autobiography also dates the writing of the song to 1975, the song reportedly being a key factor in Meat Loaf and Steinman deciding to do an album together.

The song was the first single released from the album, with an edit of For Crying Out Loud as the B-side.  The record peaked at No. 73 in the Record World singles chart, and didn't appear at all in Billboard Hot 100.  Billboard reviewed the single, finding the guitar introduction to be energetic, the beat to be ‘catchy’ and the vocal performance to be somewhat similar to Bruce Springsteen.  Billboard also commented on how occasional pauses in the instruments allow the ‘infectious’ vocals to be highlighted.

Following the success of the next two singles, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, the song was re-released in October 1978 with Paradise as the B-side.  This issue peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, over a year after the first release of the song.

This exciting and energetic choral arrangement is voiced for full SATB choir with piano accompaniment, and will lend a touch of contemporary pop/rock to your next concert.

Also available for SSAA.

I make piano solo arrangements for my students of songs that they love! My goal is to create something that sounds beautiful as a standalone piece of music, and most importantly, that it actually makes pianistic sense. Sometimes I may hide exercises in the arrangements that I want a student to work on. All of my arrangements are usually made for a specific student, so results will vary.

Some fingering is included to guide you along. The song as a whole has been condensed to the main parts. As a general rule, I often shorten vocal melodies and remove excessive syllable notes (lyrics). Solo performances will sound much nicer this way. I also condense melodies for simpler timings.

This arrangement was made for an early intermediate student who had just completed learning Fur Elise. I kept some of those elements in mind and risked throwing in some octaves for additional practice. I did keep all the exciting sections, otherwise it would be no fun. The song stands on its own and sounds absolutely beautiful. It has a big sound that won't take a student months to get through. Plenty of patterns they can grasp and re-use. Great for practicing arpeggios too!
