Instrumental Duet,Lever Harp - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.803906 Composed by Afro-American Songs and George Willis Cooke. Arranged by Serena O’Meara. Folk,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual,Traditional. 5 pages. O'Meara Music #5361623. Published by O'Meara Music (A0.803906). Both Michael Row the Boat Ashore and There is a Balm in Gilead are Afro-American Spirituals. Charles Pickard Ware wrote down Michael Row the Boat Ashore after listening to slaves sing it as they worked on the plantations or rowed across water. The words ask Archangel Michael for help. There is a Balm in Gilead comes from both the Old and New Testaments. Unitarian Minister, George Willis Cooke wrote a song in the later 1800’s that has become a campfire mainstay. I chose to list it as Down in My Heart. It’s also known as I’ve Got the Joy, I’ve Got that Joy, Joy, Joy and Joy, Joy, Joy. This arrangement is playable on either Lever or Pedal harps. Dynamics are clearly marked.

By Lilian Ray. Arranged by Rita Arendz. 20th Century,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Standards,Wedding. Brass Band. 38 pages. Rita Arendz #707448. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1104241). For voice and Brass band. Looking for something nostalgic? The Sunshine of Your Smile was written in 1913 by Lilian Ray with lyrics by Leonard Cooke. Ray was a pseudonym used by English composer John Neat. This song was very popular among the soldiers during the First World War as a ballad to their sweethearts. Since then, it has had many famous covers. In 1941, Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey recorded this song in a jazz idiom and it remained popular for the remainder of World War II. Later, in 1980, Michael Berry did a cover where it reached the top 10 in the UK Singles Chart. Great for recitals, concerts (love-themed), weddings, and other special occasions. Voice range sits well for mezzo-soprano or alto. Duration ~3:30. 38 pages.
