By Nino Tempo & April Stevens. By Mitchell Parish and Peter De Rose. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Jazz,Rock,Standards. 8 pages. Joel Jacklich #1008605. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.1427865).

Deep Purple by Peter De Rose and Mitchell Parish is here arranged for string quartet by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Deep Purple was published in 1933 as a piano composition. The following year, Paul Whiteman had it scored for his suave big band orchestra that was making a lady out of jazz in Whiteman's phrase. Deep Purple became so popular in sheet music sales that Mitchell Parish added lyrics in 1938. The second-most popular version, which hit number one on the U.S. pop charts (the 100th song to do so) in November 1963 and also won that year's Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Record, was recorded by brother-sister act Nino Tempo & April Stevens.

Louisiana Fairy Tale (or Louisiana Fairytale) is a song written in 1935 by Haven Gillespie, with lyrics by Mitchell Parish and J. Fred Coots, and was originally popularized by Fats Waller. Waller's version opens with him playing a four-bar solo piano lead-in to a clarinet melody backed by drums, guitar, clarinet, trumpet and piano. A muted trumpet bridge precedes Waller's vocal verses, and a Dixieland-style improvisational instrumental jam closes the recording. Moonlight Serenade is a famous instrumental song composed by Glenn Miller, a renowned trombonist, bandleader, and composer from the United States. The song was released in 1939 and became one of the biggest hits of the swing.
The music is characterized by its smooth and romantic melody, conveying a sense of nostalgia and serenity. It was originally composed by Miller as an instrumental piece but later received lyrics by Mitchell Parish, resulting in a version with vocals.
Moonlight Serenade is performed by a big band, a musical ensemble that includes brass instruments such as trumpets, trombones, and saxophones, along with rhythm instruments like piano, bass, and drums. The track is recognized for its saxophone section playing the main melody, followed by solos from different instruments throughout the song.
The composition became a landmark of the swing genre and is widely associated with the jazz era of the 1930s and 1940s. It is also remembered as one of Glenn Miller's greatest successes and a signature tune of his orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Moonlight Serenade continues to be appreciated and re-recorded to this day, considered one of the most iconic compositions from the swing era. Its smooth and captivating melody evokes a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere that enchants listeners across generations.

Composed by Glenn Miller and Mitchell Parish. Arranged by Chris Gorman. 20th Century,Jazz,Standards. Brass Band. 28 pages. Chris Gorman #833432. Published by Chris Gorman (A0.1237962).

Moonlight Serenade is an American swing ballad composed by Glenn Miller with subsequent lyrics by Mitchell Parish. It was an immediate phenomenon when released in May 1939 as an instrumental arrangement, though it had been adopted and performed as Miller's signature tune as early as 1938, even before it had been given the name Moonlight Serenade. In 1991, Miller's recording of Moonlight Serenade was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.  The song was recorded on April 4, 1939 on the RCA Bluebird label, and was a Top Ten hit on the U.S. pop charts in 1939, reaching number three on the Billboard charts, where it stayed for a total of fifteen weeks. It was the fifth most popular hit of 1939 in the Billboard year-end tally, where Miller had five records in the top 20. This arrangement is a must for any Brass Band Concert which involves either a Glenn Miller Memorial Night or a 1940's Concert performance. My arrangement stays very close to Millers original penning.

Composed by Irving Mills, Mitchell Parish, and Will Hudson. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Jazz. 21 pages. Peet du Toit #988444. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1405391).

Organ Grinder's Swing is a song composed by Will Hudson, with lyrics credited to Mitchell Parish and Irving Mills (Mills was the publisher), published in 1936. It became associated with the Jimmie Lunceford orchestra. Hudson based the Organ Grinder's Swing on the nursery rhyme I Love Coffee, I Love Tea.

Ella Fitzgerald recorded the song in November 1936 with her Savoy Eight, and recorded it for a second time with the Count Basie Orchestra for her last album with Basie, 1979's A Classy Pair. Other contemporary versions were recorded by Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt and the Mills Brothers. It was also featured in a 1937 Popeye short Organ Grinder's Swing.
Organist Jimmy Smith recorded Organ Grinder's Swing on his 1965 album Organ Grinder Swing. Vibraphonist Milt Jackson recorded it again in 1976 live at the Kosei Nenkin, Tokyo, with Teddy Edwards, Cedar Walton, Ray Brown and Billy Higgins.

I have adapted this song for an organ, brass and percussion concert to something light and jazzy and requested my partner in crime, Sam Harrill, to add the percussion part. May you enjoy it with us!

By Bobby Rydell. By Domenico Modugno, Francesco Migliacci, and Mitchell Parish. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. 20th Century,Contemporary,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. 12 pages. Scott S. Stewart #717244. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1115466).

Nearly everyone can sing along to the chorus of this Italian song “Volare†(“Nel blu dipunto di bluâ€) which means ‘to fly’. “Volare†recounts a man’s dream in which he is flying high above the earth in the blue sky. And then tells of how, when the moon goes down, it takes dreams along with it, and that another dream such as this, will never come along again. This arrangement is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment. It uses the original Italian text (and, at times, Mitchell Parish’s English lyrics). The tempo ranges from a simple fox-trot-to-tango-to-beguine-to a driving musical theater beat. Performance time: 3:05+-.

Stairway to the Stars is a popular song composed by Matty Malneck and Frank Signorelli, with lyrics by Mitchell Parish. It was based on a theme from Malneck and Signorelli's 1934 instrumental piece, Park Avenue Fantasy. Hit recordings in 1939 were by Glenn Miller, Kay Kyser, Jimmy Dorsey and by Al Donohue. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added what we think are some pretty cool left-hand fills. We hope you like what we've done with this grand old tune!
