Choir Sacred Instrumental Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: JX.00-29373 Composed by Simeon B. Marsh. Arranged by David Huntsinger. This edition: InstruPax. Choral (Sacred); Choral Octavo; Performance Music Ensemble; Single Titles; Worship Resources. H. W. Gray. Sacred. Part(s). 18 pages. H. W. Gray #00-29373. Published by H. W. Gray (JX.00-29373). English. Words by John Wesley. Psalms 27, Psalms 31, Psalms 32, Psalms 55, Psalms 61, Psalms 91, Isaiah 35:4, Isaiah 41: 10-14, Isaiah 43 1-13, John 14:1-4, 2 Corinthians 1: 3-5, 2 Corinthians 4: 8-10, 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18.Jesus, Lover of My Soul is a darkly beautiful setting of what has been called English hymnist, Charles Wesley's finest hymn. With optional obbligato instrument included, additional instrumental parts and accompaniment track available, this anthem is appropriate for worship throughout the year. Though unsubstantiated, the story behind this hymn is intriguing. One day as Wesley was preaching in the fields of the parish of Killyleagh, County Down, Ireland, men who disagreed with his doctrine attacked him and Wesley was forced to flee. Finding a hiding place in a hedge near a small brook, with the cries of his pursuers all around him, Wesley was said to have composed this hymn.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818222 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Martin Luther. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Sacred. Score. 15 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #3070993. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818222). A Mighty Fortress is Our God ♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Martin Luther wrote Ein Feste Burg sometime between 1527 and 1529. (Luther published the Ninety-five Theses in 1517 and was excommunicated in 1521.) Ein Feste Burg was translated into English by Miles Coverdale in 1539 with the title, Oure God is a defence and towre. The English text most familiar to me was translated by Francis Hedge in 1853. ♫ Luther believed in the power of music. In 1558 in the Forward to Georg Rhau's Symphoniae he wrote “I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy the lovely gift of music, which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God. … next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits.... Our dear fathers and prophets did not desire without reason that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms. This precious gift has been given to man alone that he might thereby remind himself that God has created man for the express purpose of praising and extolling God.” ♫ In his lifetime, Luther made 3 major contributions to the Church: the doctrine of salvation by faith alone, the belief that Scripture should be translated into the people's language (producing a translation of the Bible into German), and the birth of congregational singing. In Roman Catholic churches of his day, only the cantor and a chorus sang the mass in Latin. He was determined to restore congregational singing in German to the church. ♫ In the slides, I have featured the Citadelle Laferrière, a fortress in Northern Haiti, commissioned in 1805 by Henri Christophe and completed in 1820, following Haiti’s independence from France in 1804. ♫ music © 2010 (copyright registered in 'Rejoice Ye Pure In Heart’ collection) ♫ recording ℗ 2020 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2022 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ performed by the arranger ♫ This .pdf file includes 2 files: 1) Letter size piano score 2) Small page piano score for performing from a 10 inch tablet ♫ (Tell your computer which pages you want to print. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1029559 Composed by Peter Daniel Klein. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 6 pages. Peter Daniel Klein #5307267. Published by Peter Daniel Klein (A0.1029559). I have written a programmatic, neo-romantic/post-romantic prose and musical fragment/miniature based on Schlegel's writings about a Hedgehog. Fragment in the sense that it is not fully developed, yet, in another sense, it is overdeveloped for its length. There are several modern elements in that it is bitonal at one point. At another point, I pit Scriabin's mystic chord, which is his synthetic mode, against what I feel is its nearest aeolian mode, c-minor, which is modernistically dissonant.   It is written in 'classicized' AABA popular song form, which is perfect for a miniature. It revolves around the programmatic, free verse' Prayer,' a plea to God for sleep, elusive due to the mourning of lost love and the associated emptiness and grief felt deep in the night. It is motivic in that there is a repeated augmented 6 to a half-diminished cadence that introduces the theme and then serves to transition each small section, in a secondary dominant style repetition until reaching tonic.   -A1 is a simple statement of the linear theme and harmony in 6ths, and 9ths, almost in keeping with the introductory and transitionary cadence, at least intervallically.   -A2 is a restatement of that theme with an added countermelody (which becomes the subject of section B) woven between the upper linear melody and the altered bass accompaniment.   -B begins with a short statement of the countermelody bi-tonally, the left hand in c minor, the right in g minor. There is a brief transposition between several keys, bitonally, while the sostenuto pedal holds a pedal tone until it attenuates completely.  The two measures build from repressed despondency to rage, as strong emotions often do, quickly turning to dissonant chaos. The dynamics and intensity build to a diminished chord whose top note moves up half a step to a Scriabin mystic chord arpeggio.  The held sustain pedal melds the dissonance together with emotional tumult, which fades as quickly as it came, as outbursts often do.   -A3 starts with the motivic cadence and a deep bass pedal tone. This section is the crowning moment in the piece. In sixths, the macabre accompaniment moves to the right-hand upper tessitura as the more developed 'A' melody moans below in the bass and baritone as the music ebbs away. A simple c-minor arpeggio strains against a very similar Scriabin mystic chord arpeggio, an octave or a minor seventh apart, ending on an A major and A flat in sweet, gentle, unresolved dissonance against a dying root pedal tone, the final teardrop.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938424 Composed by Colin Bayliss. 20th Century. Score and parts. 46 pages. Colin Bayliss #11309. Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938424). The work was completed on February 2nd 1970 and is the first piece to be retained by the composer after he had destroyed all his earlier compositions. The parts are available as a separate download. The following is taken from the catalogue of the composer's works:- The photocopy of the MS is marked String Quartet No. 1, but is not regarded by the composer as part of his mature string quartet writing. The MS itself was lost in a fire at the home of Col. Robert Tong, formerly Registrar of Queen Mary College, University of London. A typesetting was made in November 2000 as the photocopy had faded so badly. The composer's sketch books suggest that the movements were written in the order 3,2,4,1. 1. Allegro 2. Scherzo (Allegro energico) Trio I - tempo di menuetto Trio II - no tempo indicated - [andante] 3. Andante con moto 4. Allegro ma non troppo Composer's note:- As the above suggests, I originally had no intention of publishing this early piece. The recording by the Lochrian String Quartet of the six numbered quartets, however , together with sleeve notes admitting the existence of this work, prompted me into revising my opinion and allowing its publication, so that anyone wishing to study this first effort may do so. It shows certain traits that I was to develop in the six quartets and others that I was to discard, and therefore is of musicological interest. It also has a few good, albeit imitative, tunes! Duration: Approx. 25 mins. COLIN BAYLISS was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in 1948. His life-long love of music led him to compose from an early age and he now has a catalogue of over a hundred works including two operas, four symphonies, six string quartets and many other pieces for most instrumental and chamber groupings, over seventy of them published. He is a member of the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, the North West Composers' Association and the Performing Rights Society. As well as writing music himself, he has also compiled annotated catalogues of the works of Anthony Hedges and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. CDs of his piano music played by David Martin and complete organ music played by Ronald Frost are available on the New Century Classics label.
