Puer nobis nascitur, usually translated as Unto Us is Born a Son, is a medieval Christmas carol found in a number of manuscript sources - the 14th-century German Moosburg Gradual and a 15th-century Trier manuscript.

The song was first published in the 1582 Finnish songbook Piae Cantiones, a volume of 74 medieval songs with Latin texts…

The carol became popular as a processional hymn following a translation by George Ratcliffe Woodward (1859-1934) first published in 1902. Percy Dearmer also translated the hymn for inclusion in the 1928 Oxford Book of Carols as Unto Us a Boy is Born.  Both translations are commonly used. Tune from Piae Cantiones Using an ostinato figure played Martellato or TD, the arranger creates a clever arrangement of Piae Cantiones (better known as Good King Wenceslas) in simple meter with the exception of a middle section in compound meter. Taken through several meter and key changes, Sherman's work is a lively addition to a Christmas concert. Measures total 126.

A jaunty playful setting of a 16th century tune from Piae Cantiones.  Often know by the title, On This Day, the piece is marked at quarter note = 92-120.  It  is effective anywhere within that range.  The audio sample is quarter = 120.  Full of hocketing, it will be fun to play.  Useful for concert, worship service, and festive Christmas gatherings.

Gaudete rejoice [ye] is a sacred Christmas carol, thought to have been composed in the 16th century. It was published in Piae Cantiones, a collection of Finnish/Swedish sacred songs published in 1581.

No music is given for the verses, but the standard tune comes from older liturgical books. It is sometimes entitled Gaudete, Christus est Natus.

British folk rock group Steeleye Span had a hit in 1973 (No. 14, UK singles chart) with an a cappella recording of the song. Guitarist Bob Johnson had heard the song when he attended a folk-carol service with his father-in-law in Cambridge, and brought it to the attention of the rest of the band.
(Unlike the album version which fades up slowly and fades down slowly, the single was at the same volume for the entire length of the song.)
