Note that both the words and music are by Kate Loder.It’s in the key of a minor, a slow andante tempo and sad.It’s quite simple, certainly for the singer.

This is one of the many divertimenti written by Franz Joseph Haydn for the enjoyment of Prince Esterhazy, his employer. It is work in several movements that features the flute with the other instruments acting as accompaniment. It has been arranged for flute, Bb clarinet and bassoon with optional Bb bass clarinet. The work requires an accomplished flute player while the other two parts are musically easier.

Tommaso Giodani was an 18th century composer who was born in Naple, Italy, but spent most of his adult life in Dublin, Ireland and London, England. He was active in both locations as a composer and impresario of opera. He also wrote chamber music, most of which involved the flute including three sets of flute duets. From the second set of duets (1774-74) are these selected movements written in the galant style.

The delightful trio by Franz Joseph Haydn was originally written as a baryton, violin or viola and cello trio for Prince Esterhazy who played the baryton, an instrument that is obsolete today. Haydn wrote 126 of these baryton trios along with other works for the instrument including three concertos. The trio is in two movements, a Moderato and Minuet with Trio. This arrangement is for a trio of woodwinds, flute, Bb clarinet and bassoon with an optional Bb bass clarinet part and is suitable for intermediate players.

He was a prolific composer in a wide range of genres....symphonies, string quartets, operas and chamber music. He founded a music publishing business in Paris which published works of such composers as Mozart, Beethoven and Boccherini. He arranged works of composer such as this composition by Devienne that he arranged as a flute duet. His music is noted for it simplicity which made it quite popular with the amateur musicians of his time, but it quickly fell out of favor with his death.

Written in the latter part of the 18th century, the Sonata in Bb Major Op. 1 #5 by Franz Anton Hoffmeister is an excellent example of Classical era style. Unlike his contemporaries Mozart and Haydn, Hoffmeister wrote extensively for the flute which was a popular instrument among amateur musicians. This sonata comes from his first published set of flute duets and was edited from an 18th century edition found in the Library of Congress. No modern editions are known to exist to the editor. The piece gives both performers a chance to play both melody and accompaniment parts. The work is in three movements-Allegro, Poco Adagio and rondo-Allergo, and is accessable to intermediate to advanced player.
