There Are Such Things is a popular song by Stanley Adams, Abel Baer, and George W. Meyer, published in 1942. The first and most popular version of the song was performed by Tommy Dorsey's orchestra with vocals by Frank Sinatra and The Pied Pipers, which reached No. 1 on the US best-selling records chart in 1942. This version hit No. 2 on the Harlem Hit Parade chart. There have been many other versions recorded since. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We added what we think are some pretty cool left-hand fills that we hope you will like! This arrangement for string quartet retains the original key of G, well suited to string instruments. Although the first violin has much of the melody there are some attractive lines for the other parts. This elegant little song, which has always been a favourite of mine, describes a graceful elderly lady walking carefully round her neighbourhood, and reminds me of the style of a gavotte.
