SKU: A0.1075450

Composed by Lyrics by Brewster M. Higley, Music by Daniel E. Kelley. Arranged by Evan Halloin. Classical,Folk,Patriotic,Traditional. Score and parts. 118 pages. Evan Halloin #679638. Published by Evan Halloin (A0.1075450).

Home on the Range is arranged here for full symphony orchestra, with and option to perform it as an audience sing-along. There is a short intro, 4 verses and choruses, and a short coda. Each verse and chorus is slightly different, like a series of variations.

This arrangement was originally created for the Kansas City Symphony's Symphony in the Flint Hills event in 2022, an annual outdoor concert which traditionally ends with a crowd singing along to this, the state song of Kansas. The key is a friendly E flat, and the text is provided on the second page of the score. There are parts for:

the sing-along vocal part 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B flat, 2 bassoons optional piccolo, English horn, bass clarinet, contrabassoon 4 horns in F, 3 trumpets in C, 2 trombones, bass trombone, tuba Timpani, 2 percussionists (glockenspiel, triangle, suspended cymbal), harp violin I, violin II, viola, cello, double bass

I mean, it's a good tune!

Score is 11 x 17 and parts are 9 x 12 size. Adobe Acrobat will easily shrink to fit letter size paper.

Three Pieces For Violin and Orchestra Violin Concerto No. 2

Originally composed to mark the bicentennial of the state of Tennessee, O’Connor’s 2nd Violin Concerto was premiered with the Nashville Symphony during the 1996 celebration. The movements, Call of the Mockingbird, Trail of Tears, and Fanfare for the Volunteer reflect on broad themes relating to the history and culture of the state. The work was released in 1999 on a cd for Sony Classical performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra titled by its final movement Fanfare for the Volunteer.

Call of the Mockingbird;  The evocations of nature and landscape. In the course of its many voicings (both literal and figurative), the theme evokes a broad range of images, from the bird of the title to the ruggedness of the Appalachian terrain.

Trail of Tears;  The tragedy of the forced migration of the Cherokee Indians in 1838-39. An episode in American history, the work incorporates aspects of Native American, Celtic and Central European traditions within the broader context of a symphonic composition.

Fanfare for the Volunteer;  The fierce and bittersweet pride of the southeastern United States. Perhaps, the clearest blending of O’Connor’s background as a traditional fiddler with his more recent work as a symphonic composer. The occasional hints of Irish balladry evoke nothing so much as the keenest sense of longing.

The melody used to represent the EU is taken from the Ninth Symphony, composed in 1823 by Ludwig van Beethoven, who set to music the Ode to Joy, written by Friedrich von Schiller in 1785. The anthem symbolises not only the European Union, but also Europe in general. The Ode to Joy expresses Schiller's idealistic vision of the development of brotherhood among men, a vision shared by Beethoven. In 1972, the Council of Europe adopted the theme of Beethoven's Ode to Joy as its anthem. In 1985, it was adopted by the heads of state and government of the member countries as the official anthem of the European Union. The anthem has no lyrics and consists only of music. In the universal language of music, this anthem expresses the ideals of freedom, peace and solidarity that Europe pursues.
The European anthem is not intended to replace the national anthems of the member countries, but rather to celebrate the values ??they share. The anthem is performed at official ceremonies involving the European Union and in general at all types of events of a European nature.

Composed by David Diamond. Score and Parts. 97 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #PDP100. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.PDP100).

9 x 12 in inches.

The Chamber Symphony dates from his New York period before he studied with the legendary Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) at the American Conservatory outside of Paris. Like other works from his early 20s, this piece exhibits an extraordinary grasp of structure and overall design within a tonal harmonic language. The unusual scoring (clarinet, bassoon, viola, trumpet, and piano), like so many other chamber pieces written between the two World Wars, shows the influence of Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971), who would later become a close friend of the young American. The Chamber Symphony was premiered on 7 May 1937 at the Federal Theater in New York City. Jacques Gordon conducted the WP A Ensemble. Evidently the group was under-rehearsed and Diamond was not happy the performance. Thinking that the fault lay with the composition itself, he consigned the score and parts to a trunk in the attic of the family home in Rochester where it remained for over fifty years.

I ran across a reference to the Chamber Symphony in the early 1990s and telephoned David Diamond to ask if I could get a copy of it. Thus began a sporadic exchange of telephone calls and postcards over the next five years. Among other things, we discovered that his parents and my paternal grandmother had come from the same region of Ukraine. Eventually he tottered up to the attic and sent me a copy of the score, with his penciled corrections, and his original parts, which I photocopied and returned to him. I performed the piece with colleagues at Kansas State University and sent Diamond a copy of the recording. He was ecstatic with our performance and told me I wonder why I've suppressed it for all these years? I got to meet David Diamond in June 2000 and we discussed the possibility of trying to get the Chamber Symphony published. He averred that his regular publishers wouldn't be interested owing to the limited market for such a work.

A year after David Diamond's death I began my venture into music publishing and contacted Sam Elliott, a close friend of the composer's who serves as the executor for his estate. Mr. Elliott was happy to hear that I wanted to publish the Piece through Prairie Dawg Press and gave his kind permission to do so. I hope that my colleagues will enjoy this work as much as I have and that it will receive frequent performances.

Composed by Sven Hagvil. Secular. Octavo. 65 pages. Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital #1123. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1123).

8.27 x 11.7 inches.

Sven Hagvil's Symphony of Solitarities is a choral symphony in three movements (This oceanic feeling, Lonelinesses, Solitude) for mixed choir and soprano saxophone (or clarinet). The piece, which is around 30 minutes, is composed for S:t Johannes Chamber Choir in Stockholm, conducted by Karin Oldgren. At the first performance Anders Paulsson, world renown saxophonist to whom the symphony is dedicated, was soloist on soprano saxophone.

The lyrics, written by the composer, are dealing with man's existential loneliness, a loneliness that we paradoxically share with all other people.

In the second movement some choreographic elements are added, as well as solo parts for the choristers. The instrumentalist is expected to improvise parts of the music. The last movement, Solitude, is available as an off-print for SSAA and TTBB.

This haunting piece of music from Beethoven's 7th Symphony has been abridged and carefully arranged for Brass Quintet. It is sympathetic to the original music and should be easily accessible for intermediate to advanced players. Parts are also included for non standard Brass Band instruments such as Tenor Horn in Eb, Euph/Trom in treble clef, plus Eb and Bb Bass also in treble clef. All parts are written with consideration of typical range and technique. Some ensembles might prefer to opt for Trumpet 1 in Eb rather than 2 trumpets in Bb. There is also an optional percussion part on Timpani (G & D) that can easily be played on old fashioned hand tuned instruments, and will lend a bit more gravitas to any performance. The piece is very musically satisfying to play and will sit well on any concert or recital programme. The duration of the piece is about 4:50 minutes. The PDF is 45 pages long (A4 portrait) containing a full score and parts. Printing guidance - Score (pages1-24 print A4 double sided), all parts p25-45 (with the exception of Timpani p45) are designed to fit 2 x A4 pages on A3).
