Phase 1 starts with basic one fingered chords, tuning, parts of guitar, fret board, etc as well as songs that go along with chords C, G, G7 and F. Phase 2 adds chords and also shows the 1 fingered chords in their full form. You learn another strumming pattern as well. More songs are included in this phase as well. Phase 3 is for those that have mastered 1 and 2. The chords are harder and you need to be able to switch chords fast. We learn about using a capo, transposing and we touch finger picking as well. This phase also has songs to play along with as well. The songs are either original songs by me or public domain songs I have arranged. We aren't allowed to put any copyright material in these books without permission from the owners of the songs. Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335323 Composed by Kendra Brown. 21st Century. 26 pages. Kendra Brown #921147. Published by Kendra Brown (A0.1335323). The main theme is inspired by the introduction of the piece. Delicate and child-like. The ostinato in the beginning of the piece that double reeds have displays the feeling of a “child-like� waltz. The pattern is in 3 but it should be played as if it is in 6/8, with emphasis on beats 1 and 3. There should be weight to the sound but it should not be heavy. Sometimes in life, (as both teens and adults) we tend to get caught up in stress or worries and we forget to take a break, relax and destress a little. This piece reminds us to go back to our childlike roots. As the theme in Section A expands, it takes a turn in Section B where the tempo picks up. (Players are encouraged to have as much fun as they can with this part.) At and after the exposed bassoon part at m.50, in the words of my old high school band director, “Let it rip potato chip!� (Meaning give it all you’ve got and have fun). Brass are encouraged to play the dynamics as written in this section but listen to each other. Section C is a bridge to the 7/8 in Section D. Section D, reintroduces the theme in the form of a trumpet solo while brass and some of the woodwinds have the ostinato. Be careful euphonium & tuba because you’re missing a beat on purpose! Section E is the “Medley� of all the parts that were previously played with only tuba playing in the relative minor so it sticks out at the bottom of the ensemble. This is symbolic of the piece itself, showing that the pressures of life can be overcome by keeping a good attitude and persevering through those tough times that you encounter. Section F is another “bridge� beginning with the flute solo reiterating the theme one last time before the “descent and climb� (starting at m.137) to the final destination: Section G. Section G should be played like an overture. Full and with joy and a “coming alive-ness� to it therefore bringing life to the once dead emotions that once were. The ending with the oboe/bassoon duet should be played as quietly as possible & as in tune as possible.

In phase 3 we go over finger picking and using the capo as well as transposing chords. It starts with little fingers in phase 1 where they can use 1 finger to play 4 simple chords. There are lots of visual aides included as well as a lot of sheet music they can play along to. Phase 2 shows the full form of those chords and also introduces more simple chords. There is sheet music included in this phase as well. You will also learn another strumming pattern. Phase 3 will introduce more chords, learn how to use a capo, more strumming patterns, finger picking, transposing chords to make it easier to play certain songs and to raise pitch etc. This is the full book. However, phase 1 has a lot of songs you will miss out on if you skip this phase plus it has a lot of information that won't be repeated about the guitar, etc. I will be putting an mp3 up for sale that you can also purchase to play along with these songs as just playing chords doesn't sound like the song. Stevens was born in 1862 in the Lawnridge community of Scotland County, Missouri.  All through his life, he suffered many hardships including his father being falsely arrested and serving some prison time during his teens. He became a minister of the gospel until death, dying a year after his wife in the early 1940s. All of their babies died before them, some as small children, one Waldo at 19, and a daughter who may have lived a little longer. This may have shaped the feelings expressed in this song.  This arrangement is for 4 part male harmony (TTBB) a cappella.

Great for waking interest in that particular piano student and a really fun way to explore the pentatonic scale and 9th chords on the piano. Cross overs abound! I wrote this descriptive piece in particular for a student I was teaching, Elsa S., who ended up performing it on her Spring recital. Julia Muench currently resides on the piano faculty at the Monmouth Conservatory of Music (now under the Count Basie Theatre umbrella) in Red Bank, New Jersey, with a large student class.Her more recent musical activities besides composing, involve extensive piano teaching and giving piano recitals. The past two years, she has spent a good deal of time traveling in and out of the country. Italy and Chile have been among her destinations abroad. She performed a piano concert including her own composition, Nautilus Dances, as part of the Utopia Exhibit ( focusing on German Emigration to the US in the 1830's) in Washington DC's German Museum and at the Missouri history Museum in St. Louis, MO.Her latest piano concert in Red Bank, NJ featured composers Chopin, Debussy and Khatchaturian.
