On the Brink is a 10-minute long work for jazz trio combined with string quartet. It features continuous form, slow and organic development, engaging counterpoint, and advanced, dissonant harmonies. The piece contains two main themes-the A theme evokes despair and wondering; the B theme, longing and tension. The two themes are introduced towards the beginning, and they are used throughout the whole piece in various angles and representations. There is an open solo section for whomever desires to improvise. The piece climaxes with the B theme represented by piercing unison lines, and accented by striking low notes from the piano and acoustic bass.

The full instrumentation is as follows: Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Piano, Acoustic Bass, Drum Set.

This arrangement of This Is My Father's World offers an epic and beautiful rendition of the hymn for the brass quintet medium. A little over 4 and a half minutes and on the challenging side, collegiate level players will find this an effective and audience-pleasing piece for concerts or outreach gigs while an excellent high school group could flex their lyrical and technical chops with a performance of it.
