Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Clarinet - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.844571

Composed by Charles Czerny. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Classical,Folk,Instructional. 17 pages. Phil Beaman #3904129. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844571).

In 1853 Charles Czerny composed a set of 20 easy piano pieces which he called Amusement des Jeunes Amateurs (Amusement for Young Amateurs); they were subtitled Petites et Brillantes Recreations (Small and Brilliant Recreations).   Let's just say they are easy fun little pieces! All of the pieces were loosely based on a folk song or a popular theme from a classical composer. One of them was based on a popular folk Russian polka, so he called it Polka Russe.
I have taken Polka Russe and freely arranged it for Instrumental Trio, using some of Czerny's themes, re-arranging them into parts, and also re-ordering them into my own Rondo. Form is Intro-ABACADA-Coda. I have broken up his melodies and spread them across all three parts; each part is of equal importance and each part independently adds to the stunning melodic weaving. Parts are mostly scales and arpeggios. It requires careful counting and close attention to rhythmic interplay, but sounds quite advanced and dramatic when all details are observed.
This piece is really quite Easy, I have just marked it Early Intermediate because of the Allegretto vivace tempo, the note range (two octaves), and the necessary counting. A fun piece to show your technique and musicianship as a group in any concert.

The Minuet in G major is a keyboard piece included in the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach, J.S. Bach's second wife. It was originally thought to be composed by J. S. Bach, but is now known to have been composed by Christian Petzold. The melody is well know, having been used in many movies, theme parks, cartoons, etc.

This arrangement is for string trio, with the melody played by each of the three instruments at different times. As with all Zene String trio arrangements, we have included the middle voice in both treble and alto clef so it can be played either by two violins and a cello, or by a single violin, viola and cello.

Composed by W. A. Mozart (1756 – 1791). Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival,Standards,Wedding. 70 pages. Jmsgu3 #798993. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1201012).

Sonata No. 6, “Durnitz†for String Trio

Score and performance parts:  Score: 32 pages. Duration: ca. 28:54

Mozart's Sonata in D major, K. 284, also known as the Durnitz Sonata, is a solo piano piece that was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1775. It is one of Mozart's more complex and ambitious piano sonatas and is generally regarded as one of his greatest works for the instrument.

The sonata is divided into three movements:
1.    Allegro - The first movement is a fast-paced and energetic sonata-allegro form, characterized by its lively theme and virtuosic passages. The movement begins with a bold and dramatic opening statement, followed by a series of contrasting themes and variations. The development section explores new harmonic and rhythmic territory, while the recapitulation brings the movement full circle with a restatement of the main themes.

2.    Rondeau en Polonaise - The second movement is a graceful and elegant rondo in the style of a polonaise, a popular dance of the time. The main theme is a lilting melody that is first presented by the right hand and then repeated with variations throughout the movement. The middle section features a contrasting theme in a minor key, which is then developed and expanded upon in the latter half of the movement.

3.    Theme and Variations - The final movement is a set of six variations on a theme, which is introduced at the beginning of the movement. Each variation explores a different aspect of the theme, from playful embellishments to dramatic flourishes. The final variation brings the piece to a rousing and triumphant close.
Overall, Mozart's Sonata in D major, K. 284, is a masterful example of the composer's virtuosity and innovation and remains a beloved and influential work in the piano repertoire.

Mozart's Sonata in D major, K. 284 is also known as the Dürnitz Sonata because it is believed to have been composed for Count Johann Joseph Anton von Dürnitz, an accomplished amateur flautist who was a patron of Mozart.

Mozart was in Munich in 1775, and he met Dürnitz there. According to Mozart's letters to his father, Dürnitz played the flute very well, and Mozart was impressed by his abilities. It is believed that Mozart composed this sonata specifically for Dürnitz, who may have performed it with Mozart accompanying him on the piano.

There is no concrete evidence to support the theory that the sonata was named after Dürnitz, but it is widely accepted as the most likely explanation for the nickname. In any case, the sonata remains one of Mozart's most popular and beloved works for solo piano.

SKU: A0.1487814

Composed by Ferdinand Ries. Arranged by Dianne James. Classical. 62 pages. Artaria Editions #1064752. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1487814).

The Piano Trio in C minor Op.143 was published by Schott in 1826, but could have been composed much earlier for Ries's personal use in the London concert halls. It is an imposing work, whose gruff tone and serious purpose recall Beethoven's use of this key.

The first movement is an impressive sonata-form movement extending to a length of almost 250 bars. It contains two strikingly contrasted themes, one aggressively assertive, the other of a more lyrical, tender character (parallels to Beethoven's thematic tendencies in sonata-form movements are once again clearly apparent).

The Adagio movement, cast in the rich colours of A flat major (the tonic minor - flat submediant major key relationship recalls Beethoven once again) contains some moments of real beauty and musical insight. The piano is often centrestage, its florid lines and ornamental flourishes reminiscent of another of Ries's contemporaries, Hummel.

The technique of connected second and third movements seen in this work is not new but was a trend established in the piano trio genre by Joseph Haydn in the 1780s and 90s. The oasis of calm and tranquillity created in the Adagio is shattered dramatically by the jagged arpeggio figure which launches the finale. This extremely fast movement - the metronome marking indicates that the music should be felt in two, not in four - is characterised by the tarantella topos. It is a tremendously exciting movement, whose swirling energy and frantic pace is only reined in at the final cadence. The present edition reproduces as faithfully as possible the text of the trio as transmitted in Schott's 1826 edition of the work, a copy of which is preserved in the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin.

The metronome markings at the head of each movement derive from this source. The piano compass extends from E flat 1 to a flat 4, a range of just over six octaves. Pedal markings indicated in the source have not been included in the current edition since these are generally very instrument-dependent. Minor rhythmic inconsistences between different statements of the same theme have been retained (e.g. first movement, second subject, bb.51-52, cello and 188-89, violin), as have some differences in phrasing between successive thematic statements (cf. finale, piano bb.3-6 and violin bb.18-21).

The style and notation of articulation and dynamic markings have been standardised throughout, and, where missing from the print, markings have been reconstructed from parallel passages. These are indicated by the use of dotted slurs or brackets where appropriate. Obvious wrong notes have been corrected without comment, and editorial emendations with no authority from the print are placed within brackets.

Dianne James.

A monument of music.

Mozart's Five Divertimenti K. Anh. 229 are a set of five chamber pieces composed in 1772. The five pieces, K.Anh.227–231, were written for two oboes, two horns, and two bassoons, and were likely intended for a private performance. The five pieces, which are written in the traditional divertimento style, are light-hearted and filled with melodic themes and charming modulations. Each of the pieces is unique, but they are all unified by their harmonic language and Mozart's signature style.

The Divertimenti K. Anh. 229 offers a glimpse into the early compositional style of Mozart, showing a masterful understanding of classical forms and instrumentation. Each of the five pieces are charming, witty, and filled with joyful melodies. While the pieces are light-hearted and intended for a small ensemble, they still showcase Mozart's remarkable skill and compositional genius. The Divertimenti K. Anh. 229 remain some of Mozart's most beloved works and are a delightful listen for any chamber music enthusiast.

SKU: A0.938413

Composed by Colin Bayliss. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 59 pages. Colin Bayliss #9995. Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938413).

Piano Trio (B44) was written in the spring of 1991 for David Johnson and the trio which he was forming in Cologne. The work is in three movements:-1. Structures The three instruments build differing structural patterns based on a 12-note row. The violin and 'cello often complement each other, but the piano rarely joins them and tries to pull the music towards a diatonic tonal language, eventually succeeding to end in G major. The movement is in arch form, the second half being based on the retrogrades of the note row. 2. Textures Most forms of sound textures are used, including col legno and sul ponticello for the strings, while the piano occasionally employs soft-headed timpani sticks both on the keyboard and the interior of the instrument. Again the movement is in arch form, with a central section incorporating a miniature scherzo, with a trio section parodying the palm court trio style with a tune of sickly sentimentality. [ This movement may be played separately under the title Einer Kleiner Alptraum - A Little Night... mare] 3. Metamorphoses The notes which will eventually become a Scottish folk tune are hidden either in the repeated notes or in the left hand of the piano, either singly or in harmony. After a neo- classical exposition, using a serial melody, progress is quickly halted by the use of some of the notes of the folk tune being arranged into the theme of Weber's Turandot which was used by Hindemith in his Symphonic Metamorphoses . This pulls the music into a slightly more tonal frame work which becomes more pronounced after a reference to the theme of the slow movement of the Eroica symphony used in Richard Strauss' Metamorphosen. From then onwards, tonality, or rather modality, is established and the folk tune style is maintained with simplicity to the end, except for a miniscule coda reminiscent of the opening of the movement. The sound sample is a performance of the second movement Textures.

*INSTRUMENTATION: 2 VIOLINS & CELLO*

New York, New York is really a song that needs no introduction! Written as the theme for the Martin Scorsese film of the same name in 1977, the song was originally performed by Liza Minnelli, and her version received a Golden Globe nomination that year. However, it didn't really become a mainstream hit until 1978, when Frank Sinatra included it in his performances at Radio City Music Hall; his version quickly became a massive success, and it's now considered one of his signature songs. To this day, it's still one of the best-known songs of all time about New York City, and it's been included in AFI's list of the top 100 songs in American cinema -- so you can't go wrong adding this one to your gig books! This Cellobat arrangement for your two-violin and cello trio features the soaring melodies, catchy big-band horn riffs, fun jazz harmonies, and feel-good vibe of the original for a chart your group will love to play...and you're sure to get your audience singing along, too! Rated advanced-intermediate for a few tricky rhythms and accidentals; this will be playable for more advanced students and sightreadable for professionals.
