Adopted in 1975, it was written and composed by Thomas Shacklady, a former Royal Marine who took over the band from Inspector David Crawley. I took over the band from 1994-99, after taking the band on two overseas tours to Adelaide in 1996 & Kobe in 1999.The National Identity Act of Papua New Guinea was formulated in 1971, motivating the country to create a national flag, a national emblem, a national pledge and a national anthem. A national flag and emblem were adopted in 1971. However, the national anthem remained undecided until independence from Australia in 1975, four years later. Although many songs were submitted to be the anthem, the National Executive Council decided a week before the country's Independence Day (10 September 1975), to adopt as the national anthem a composition that was composed by Chief Inspector Thomas Shacklady (1917–2006), a bandmaster of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Band.During the 2015 Pacific Games opening ceremony, the anthem was sung with the first line altered from O arise all you sons of this land to O arise sons and daughters of this land. An official later stated that this was illegal and a violation of the National Identity Act.

He also holds an Associate of Arts degree with a Music Education and Saxophone Performance concentration from Eastern Florida State College where he was a student of James Bishop. During his time at the Bower School of music, he served as principle saxophonist in the FGCU Wind Orchestra, lead alto in the Jazz Band Flight: Jazz at FGCU, and played soprano saxophone in the Bower Saxophone Quartet. Alexander was selected to play tenor saxophone in the 2017 National Intercollegiate Band as well as principle alto saxophone in the 2017 Florida All-State Intercollegiate Band and tenor saxophone in the 2016 Florida All-State Intercollegiate Band. It is knot known to what, or more likely to whom, the title refers. Paul E. Bierley suggests that since the work was dedicated the the Columbia Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, of Washington, D.C., and composed for its Twenty-fourth Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment, that the title may refer to Myron M. Parker, one of the principal masons responsible for the success of the conclave.(1)Sousa is so universally loved, that it seems a shame to restrict his performance only to marching bands and concert bands.  Here The Thunderer is arranged for string quartet by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.). The second time it is presented in a big band swing style.   This arrangement is suitable for use in informal Fourth of July festivities. Nearly lost, this march honors the Volunteers of the U.S. Army Ambulance Corps. It relies upon melodies from the musical Good-Bye Bill, written by USAACs William B. Kernell and Richard Fechheimer. Quite a difficult one to arrange, as the melodies and original band version were not by Sousa.This Brass Quintet arrangement was made using “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa score as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. USAAC March was composed in 1918, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2019. The piece is catalogued as Volume 5, No. 87.Section titles (such as “First Strain” and “Trio”) follow the measure numbers provided by that edition. Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. Because of this, Euphonium/Baritone would make a suitable substitute.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, on April 15th, 1868, he began his musical studies at the Asilo dos Meninos Desvalidos, in 1876. In 1883, he enrolled at the Imperial Conservatório de Música where he studied harmony and counterpoint with Carlos de Mesquita – a former student of César Franck, Durand, and Massenet – and clarinet with Antônio Luís de Moura. Braga's first compositions date from this period: Sonho de Dante (1885), Dolce far niente (1886), the first Valse Romantique for piano (1886), among others.In 1887, he premiered his first symphonic work, Fantasia-Abertura. In 1890, being one of the finalists in a competition to choose the new Brazilian national anthem, Braga was awarded a scholarship to study in Europe, where he took classes with Jules Massenet at the Paris Conservatory. When Dr. Thrower won the audition for a position in the Air Force Bands in 2011 it fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming a military musician. Then he experienced an intense eight-week party known as Basic Military Training! All new Airmen go through Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, which is known as the “Gateway to the Air Force.†Two reasons he chose to enter that Gateway were his patriotism toward the great United States of America, and the great benefits and security that the Air Force offered his family. With these passions in mind, he composed a rousing musical depiction of becoming an Airman. The composition began before Basic Training, so the excitement and anticipation that he felt are exuberantly presented as heroic fanfares and patriotic gestures. However, he completed the composition after boot camp. Accordingly, in the middle of the piece there are moments of struggle and anguish that musically paint the common rigors of Basic Training. The piece ends with recapitulated heroic strains with additional flourishes, as the overall feel for this new life chapter was bound to be exhilarating and inspiring. It is beneficial for the performers to visualize the exciting and difficult journey into the military as they prepare and perform “Gateway to Freedom.†Also a play on the title, this piece was composed for and premiered by “Gateway Brass†(the brass quintet from the USAF Band of the West) in October 2011. Special gratitude goes to Jim Bartelt (USAF, retired) who contributed greatly to the creation of the percussion part.

The song got its name from Ederlezi, which is a festival[1] celebrating the return of springtime, especially by the Romani people of the Balkans, and elsewhere around the world. Ederlezi is the Romani name for the Feast of Saint George. It is celebrated on 6 May [O.S. 23 April] (occurring approximately 40 days after the spring equinox),[2]. The various Balkan spellings (Herdeljez, Erdelezi) are variants of the Turkish Hıdırellez. Versions The song is featured on Bijelo Dugme's 1988 album Ćiribiribela under the title ÄurÄ‘evdan (St. George's Day). Goran Bregović, the frontman of Bijelo Dugme, wrote the Serbo-Croatian lyrics. Bregović also recorded a version with Greek lyrics, titled Του Αη ΓιώÏγη (Tou Ai Giorgi, Saint George's), with Greek singer Alkistis Protopsalti in 1991.[3] The Greek lyrics are credited to Lina Nikolakopoulou. Bregović also worked with Turkish singer Sezen Aksu on her album titled Düğün ve Cenaze (A Wedding and a Funeral) featuring a version with Turkish lyrics, titled (Hıdrellez) in 1997. The lyrics were adapted by Aksu and Pakize Barışta. Finally, together with Polish singer Kayah he also recorded a version with Polish lyrics, titled Nie ma, nie ma ciebie. Bulgarian group Ku-Ku Band, with lead singer Slavi Trifonov, released the song on several albums with Bulgarian lyrics, titled Гергьовден (Gergyovden, St. George's Day); Serbo-Bulgarian lyrics, titled Свети Георги (Sveti Georgi, St. George); and Romani-Serbo-Bulgarian lyrics, titled Erdelezi. The band Beirut, Italian saxophonist Daniele Sepe, and the Boston-based band Bury Me Standing also do covers of Ederlezi. The Gypsy Rebels of Toronto, Ontario also cover the song, featuring the vocals of Micheal T. Butch and his band. Kroke released a version of the song as well. A Bosnian version was released by the folk-punk musical group No Smoking Orchestra on their 2007 album Time of the Gypsies, Punk Opera. A beatbox/trip version was released by French band Plume Tribu on their 2010 album Le Chainon Manquant. A Farmer's Boy is an example of a piece that gained fame and popularity through the oral traditions of singing in the United Kingdom during the 19th Century. It first appeared in print in an 1832 catalogue of street songs collected James Catnach, and appeared in many other printed books during that century. There are many tunes that are associated with the words, the most popular of these being 'Ye Sons of Albion', a patriotic tune associated with the Napoleonic Wars, that later become extremely popular as regimental march tunes for the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince of Wales Regiments.At the beginning of the 20th century legendary Folk Collector Percy Grainger recorded the song on phonograph, the song performed by a M. Tandy of Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. Just under 50 years later the great Musicologist/Ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax recorded a version that can be heard in his vast recording archive. Over time the tune followed people to other Commonwealth countries and numerous other versions appeared.This is a version that attempts to faithfully recreate the performances of bands in the late 19th Century period.

U.S. Field Artillery was composed in 1917, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2019. The piece is catalogued as Volume 5, No. 78.Section titles (such as “First Strain†and “Trioâ€) follow the measure numbers provided by that edition. Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. Because of this, Euphonium/Baritone would make a suitable substitute.
