This beautiful melody by John Barry was used for the 80s movie Somewhere in Time with Jane Seymour and Chritopher Reeve, considered by some to be the most romantic movie ever. This arrangement for string orchestra is complemented by piano which also has some solo parts like a mini piano concerto. Actually, the piece draws from two melodic sources, the main theme by John Barry, as well as a second theme composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff, who in turn wrote it as a series of variations based on a theme by Paganini. The piece itsself is not too complicated, but does need an intermediate level to be able to play; the piano part should be performed by someone with advanced intermediate skills, as it has some flashy passages.

Another groovy hit from the 80's, I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight is a rock ballad by Cutting Crew. A fast song, powerful rhythm and easily recognizable melody makes this a great pleasure to play. When I originally arranged this, it was more difficult to play due to large jumps in the left hand that gave the song a little more depth. For the sake of playability I rewrote those jumps and reduced them while still maintaining most of the original drive.

This is for fairly advanced players as it incorporates all the voicings to be played by both hands, but it is well worth the extra effort. The sound is quite close to the original and with the right pedalling this wonderful song will really rock.

A fun piece for 2 pianos, in the style of the Clementi sonatinas which are so enjoyable, and perfectly suited for students. Since most piano teachers have 2 pianos in their studio, this is a great piece to practice playing together, and learning the different aspects of ensemble music, like adjusting the tempo, dynamics and general expression so that both players together sound like one instrument.

The Girl from Ipanema is a classic evergreen that everyone has heard at one point or another. Smooth and velvety, but very rhythmic and elegantly flowing, the Garota de Ipanema is a joy to listen to. This arrangement for solo piano captures that feeling, including a few little runs and arpeggios. It is quite playable but you should be able to keep a good rhythmic control to enjoy the full flavour.
