It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a duet for two Cellos.

It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets to dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both parts enjoying plenty of melodic interest. The overall performance time is just over two and a half minutes.

The Chocolate Chalypso is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Cellos.

Chocolate Chalypso is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist. 

Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, Chocolate Chalypso is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as Here Comes the Bride. Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since. This version is arranged as a duet for two Cellos.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, especially at weddings. The melody is mainly in the first part. The performance time is a little more than one minute. Follow the links above to hear a short audio sample or a complete performance on youtube. The samples come from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing and expressive playing. The rhythms are straightforward though there are unexpected accidentals in the middle section which might pose a challenge for finger coordination and reading.

Johann Georg Christoph Schetky (1737-1824) grew up at the court of Hessen-Darmstadt where his father was in service to the landgrave Ludwig VIII as a musician and secretary. Schetky studied composition with Samuel Endler and cello with Anton Filtz. Later, he played the cello in the Darmstadt Court Orchestra, and from 1768 he gave concerts as a freelance cellist, at first in Hamburg and from 1772 in London. In 1774 he became principal cellist of the Edinburgh Musical Society and married the daughter of the Austrian cellist Joseph Reinagle (1762-1836). The cello duets op. 7 were written for teaching purposes and first published in 1780. The duets are extremely suitable for tuition. There are rewarding exercises for both players - tailor-made for the instrument.
