On Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2011, Robert Van Horne, pianist and composer was invited to a special meeting of Bay Area business people. Their purpose - wanting to help the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan on March 11th.

The meeting was organized by Mr. Alex Kurosawa, president of KPMF and held in San Jose, CA.

At the end of the meeting and after much discussion about holding a series of concerts with all funds going to the disaster victims, it was suggested that Robert compose a new song for the project that would let those afflicted in Japan, know they would not be forgotten.

I was so inspired by the dedication and volunteerism of all the people at the meeting, Robert says, that I went home and composed a new piece of music with the title: THERE IS HOPE THROUGH MUSIC.

This cello and piano arrangement was featured on October 15, 2011 at the First Congregational Church of Berkeley by cellist Oleg Sendetsky and pianist Mutsuko Dohi and presented by the Kurosawa Piano Music Foundation.

The music is dedicated to give hope to all those affected by the March 11, 2011. It is an emotionally sounding work of music.

These 2 lullabies have been transcribed on request of my student Kate after her grand daughter had been born.
She wished to play her cello for the baby who seems to like music.
the selection is:
No 1) Melodie by Robert Schumann from Kinderszenen op 68 No 1
No 2) Brahms Wiegenlied op 49 No 4
Both lullabies sound well for cello solo, but a second cello part is added to enjoy among cellists!
For Schumann's Melodie the original piano score can also be played as an accompaniment.
As for the Brahms, the piano accompaniment can be used if written for a singing part in D major, starting on the (melody) note f#.

My One and Only Love (as performed by John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman) arranged for cello duet. This is a simple and beautiful arrangement of this love tune for two cellists of either similar or varying levels - the cello 1 part is more difficult, but both have their challenges. Great for working on double stops for cello 1, learning a jazz tune for classical students, or for cello duo performance.

This duet for two cellos is ideal for special events such as weddings, receptions, church services, and general performances.  Two versions are provided.  The only difference is in the Cello 1 part, Measures 27 and 28.  Although the F# in Measure 28 is closer to the original recording, the first version flows more smoothly.  

Suitable for cellists at the Intermediate level, and up.  A 30-second video snippet is provided for a real-life sound.  Note that it is much easier to play this than it appears on paper.  I hope you enjoy!!!
