Cello Duet Cello - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588511 Composed by Traditional Irish. Arranged by David McKeown. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013345. Published by David McKeown (A0.588511). The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for two Cellos. The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. Cello Duet Cello - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.532473 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Klas Krantz. Classical,Folk. Score. 2 pages. Amadeus Music #6077517. Published by Amadeus Music (A0.532473). The origin of the tune was for a long time somewhat mysterious, as no other collector of folk tunes encountered it, and all known examples are descended from Ms. Ross’ submission to Petrie’s collection (1855). The title of the air comes from the name of the county located in Northern Ireland. The air was collected by Jane Ross of Limavady, County Londonderry, who heard it played by an itinerant piper or fiddler. The descendants of blind fiddler Jimmy McCurry assert that he is the musician from whom she transcribed the tune but there is no historical evidence to support this speculation. The tune was listed as an anonymous air, with a note attributing its collection to Jane Ross of Londonderry. This led to the descriptive title Londonderry Air being used for the piece
